Is the MSF always $299? I found this place http://www.apexcycleeducation.com/product.aspx?id=436 and they have openings soon, but they look like a business so I was thinking maybe they jacked up the price a little?

That's a brand new one that's just opened in the NoVA area. They're offering an alternative to the MSF course offered through the community colleges, with greater availability which is why it's more expensive. Up in NoVA the cost for the MSF through the co co's is $125 or $135 I can't remember, down in Charlottesville where I'm taking it, it's only $80.

fuck them then.

The MSF you take at a CC is subsodized by the state of Virginia. The private organization that is doing it now is not. They do have more open enrollment than the state course, same MSF instructors... and they are shooting to have an 8 student to 1 instructor ratio.

You wont find a "local" MSF open until November right now. If you have G at the house, might as well just get your permit and wait.

i put out a call to c'ville, we'll see how that goes.

- Dragon - 06-06-2006

Also call Richmond. Then what you'll want to do is call every Monday and then again on Wednesday up here or at your perferred location to see if there are any cancellations. Since I was registered for this weekend coming up already and have a couple people attending with me I passed up on several opportunities to take advantage of cancelled spots here in NoVA.

- Kaan - 06-06-2006

Richmond is booked until November as well. Trust me when i found out my M was taken off my license on friday, i did alot of calling.

- Dragon - 06-06-2006

Ah ok, that sucks man sorry to hear that. Just hadn't renewed it in a while so they took it off?

- Mike - 06-06-2006

kaan, where are you gonna end up taking it?

they're pretty good - they offer a morning and afternoon session and i really liked them. They cost me $85 last summer. (took mine in late July last year)

also - when you get your MSF certification and go to the DMV to get your endorsement check your license before you leave. i've heard MANY stories of people not checking and the DMV not putting it on there under 'Class'.

any details on this permit test? is there a book i should study?

- Evan - 06-06-2006

so is Cville booked until nov too?

uh...not that Im going to take an MSF or anything....

- Dragon - 06-06-2006

They have the book at the DMV, and the test is quite easy. Just read through the book and take the test you shouldn't have any problems at all.

- Feersty - 06-06-2006

I took mine at NOVA Alexandria campus, it was $90 and signed up the December before my class date in June.

- Kaan - 06-06-2006

The writen test is easy. just think common sence and vehicle physics you already know... and you shouldnt have an issue... take the practice tests online, over and over if you are bored at work... it will give you an idea of what you are in for.

1 hour 17 min... from the time i walked in the door until the time i walked out with the learners....

Losing the class M:
well if you get two tickets in Virginia in one 365 day year... you get to take the writen test for driving over when you go to renew your license... i did that and passed. Two years ago when i renewed, they forgot to tell me about the "M" test i SHOULD have retaken but was never given. I tried to convince them to give it to me... but alas, i'm off to take the MSF again... which i was going to do since i havent taken it in a LONG time and i wanted the insurance break... Sad oh well.

Read the book as you wait. If you can't pass the test your might be retarded.

You can take the road test after a month to get your full M. Practice U turns for that.

i will say that you really should look over the book before you go over the test. Most of the questions are easy, but when i first took it i didn't look at the book at all and failed with the questions that were asked where i honestly felt there were 2 "right" answers where you had to choose the "better" right answer. This was also after the MSF course where some of the questions were contradictory to what i learned there (i brought it up to the DMV Manager when i was there and brought my MSF notebook) - they really didn't care though.

- Mike - 06-06-2006

welp i got the book, but didn't have the time to sit in the 2 hour line to take a test.
