Heading Out to Oregon Trail Pro Rally - Jvimpty - 04-19-2006

Hey guys/gals,

I am heading out to the Oregon Pro Rally today. sorry I have to miss the last meeting of the semester. Tune into http://www.rallyblogs.com/quantumrallysport for updates during and after the event.

Wanted to remind everyone af a few rally events coming up:

DC Rally Cross in Orange VA, details at http://www.dcrally.com (street cars no cage can run at these)

Rally-America Championship series continues with STPR (wellsboro PA) June 3rd. I am renting a big farmhouse at this event (it sleeps 30+) so I hope to get some folks motivated out to party/spectate as it is the closest in the championship to VA. more info @ http://www.rally-america.com

Rally WV based out of Elkins WV, is a NASA event, and will take place June 24th on terrific roads near Adoplh, WV. This should be a great event, with a short enjoyable drive to get to it.

Rally WV is looking for volunteers to work (think corner working in the woods at the best spectator spots) contact me if interested, wormyworm (at gmail d.t com)

Hope you all have a great weekend, I'll try to post some photos/video from oregon trail when I return.

Jeremy

Damn if you can get a barn for STPR I'd definitely be down to check it out. Who else is in?

SpecRallyMiata?

makes me wish I kept the 240 to do some rallyXin, ah well.

Ive been considering doing a tarmac rally, i think that would be lots of fun. Who wants to be my codriver?

Jeremy what are the licensing requirements for rallying, both with NASA and RallyAmerica?

ps- do you mt. bike? I seem to remember a Jeremy Vimpty back in the days when I did the 6-pack downhills

Yeah I used to race a lot of Mtn. Bikes. and do the 6 packs. (still do)

Teh Liscensing Requirments are pretty simple. Show up pay teh membership fee and liscense fee (90 for Nasa, less if you are already a member)

The car needs to have saftey equipment, including proper roll cage. Helmets, intercom, drivers suits 5+point harnesses. The rule books are online at www.nasarallysport.com and www.rallyamerica.com

You can get a log book from either sanctioning body, and the otehr will accept it. The rules are very similar, sometimes classes jsut have different names in NASA than RA.

I'd be glad to co-drive for anyone interested. I also have a "psuedo rally" just west of town here for anyone looking to spend a day figuring out how an event would work. Get familiar with the format, and see some fabulous tarmac and gravel roads.

The next Tarmac event is Rally TN. The roads there are fantastic...flowing good run offs, and technical. You will not want a road race set up (track set up) on your car, it will be evil on these roads. raise teh car some, soften it up, as the roads are very undulating, adn often will have grass, dirt and gravel from other competitors "cutting" strewn across the road.

They set up Chicanes (made out of round hay bales etc) on sections where the straights would allow you to get going really fast. These limit top speeds, and also slow you down before the road gets tight and twisty or drops away through a long sweeping tightening turn.

Sorry I missed the last meeting I was flying to OTPR.
