New Paint? - .RJ - 04-16-2006

I'm going to get my bike fixed up pretty good as it was, but I will eventually need to buy a new set of upper fairings. Hard to find used in good shape, and on ebay they'll go for as much as a new set. So, seems the best choice seems to buy a new set, and they'll come unpainted.

Now, I was thinking, while I am painting things....... maybe I should change it up - would cost me a few hundred in paint/supplies/vinyl and probably a few nights and a weekend to finish up. Most of the detail would be vinyl, with a white base.

Few Options

1) Leave it alone, you'll just crash it again and its a busted old bike anyways

2) Edwards RC51 theme

3) Red/White F4i theme

4) Redbull theme

5) Generic Honda theme

Flat black, Mad Max style.

I don't care if it looks ghettorific, why are you spending $$$ on paint on your busted ass old cheap bike?

20 bucks of rattlecan.

- .RJ - 04-16-2006

The problem I have with flat black is that it screams "i've been crashed". And, well, it has been crashed it doesnt have to look like it, and rattlecan flat black paint jobs look like complete ass.

- CaptainHenreh - 04-16-2006

If you insist.

I say blue, like the red bull scheme, but sans red bull. Do something else. Some half-naked Anime chick with a big sword.

Hmm... I like this look too:

whats the point of tracking down a matched tank when you are going to paint it anyway.

vote #1 is to leave it (cuz you are goign to dump it again anyway)
vote #2 is redbull
vote #3 is red/black

Not any more expensive than a not-matched tank, and only took a few phone calls to find.

- Ginger - 04-16-2006

Leave it... it'll make whatever piece I'm riding look better.

- ScottyB - 04-17-2006

red bull or generic honder

- JohnC - 04-17-2006

Generic Honda.

- Feersty - 04-17-2006

I like Red Bull.

- ViPER1313 - 04-17-2006

Custom PBR theme.....

So do custom paint jobs...

Custom means:
1) You're trying to hard to look cool
2) You crashed it
3) Both

- .RJ - 04-17-2006

I should rephrase - Flat black screams "i've been crashed and i'm too cheap/squid/white trash/etc to make it look decent again".

Not that I disagree with you about the rest of it though.

- HAULN-SS - 04-17-2006

Maybe you should do flat black with red pinstriping and whitewall tires. That'd look hot, and show you put in some effort anyway

- PDenbigh - 04-17-2006

I vote leave it alone. It's going to be so hard to do a good paint job on it, good enough that it's worth the effort and money that is. Leaving it stock allows you to use all the expensive R&D that Honda did to make it look "factory." Plus, when I've been looking at bikes for Alison, as soon as I see "custom paint job" I disregard it, for all the reasons listed above and because they rarely look really good, are tough, and match my taste.

On Alison's Nighthawk we got a custom paint job. While it was a good 50/50 job, the closer you got the worse it got. And it was done by a body shop with all the right tools and facilities.

- Mike - 04-17-2006

i agree with pete, i'm not even looking at bikes with custom paintjobs. it could really hurt you when you go to resell.

- G.Irish - 04-17-2006

If I were going to choose a paint job the Stars and Stripes RC51 job would have to be it. The Seven Stars Honda job is pretty cool too:

But ultimately this is not a bike you were going to keep for a long ass time anyway so I say return it to the stock paint job so you can maintain your resale value.

- JustinG - 04-20-2006

PBR or Jager theme, but i liked the flat black idea to
