BIGTIME rant on my terrible day. - WRXtranceformed - 04-04-2006

So I'm driving to work right. Remember that thread on my truck making funny noises? Well it was still making them... I checked the coolant last night and all was well, had plenty left. On the drive to work, I look at the temp gauge and it's completely pegged. Shit I though, pull over and let it cool down. So I do this about 5 or 6 times, with more and more smoke being expelled every time.

I just wanted to make it to my jobsite so I could park it and let it die in peace. It gave up the ghost as I pulled into my community and I somehow managed to coax it next to our construction trailer where it proceeded to explode into a huge ball of white smoke. Radiator went pop. I thought it actually caught on fire, but it didn't.

No big deal. I mean yeah it sucks that I have to buy a new truck with a 5 figure motor rebuild bill over my head, but I'll deal I think to myself. It was almost worth it to watch the redneck day laborers we hire from West Virginia to jump around hooting and hollering when they saw the smoke, running to get fire extinguisher, etc. haha

So I get to my office for our weekly production meeting, and I proceed to get told by our service manager (who in no way has any authority over me) that he threw me under the bus at a divisional boss meeting over some retarded bullshit that happened the other day. That completely was not my fault. I wanted to punch the fat fuck right in his goatee.

And now it looks like I may not be able to make it down for alumni weekend, nor the car show =( I'll probably be searching for a new cheap ass truck.

Anyone know of any for sale? For like 1500 or less? hah. I might try to find a more expensive one if I feel like it's worth it, but I'd really rather not. I'll be renting a shitty neon or cobalt for a week just so I can get to and from work, so I guess I have that much time to find one.

Should we play the world's smallest violin for you?

I have this Dodge Spirt...I'm trying to decide what to ask for it.

Also...remember what I said about the bearings in the waterpump?!

- .RJ - 04-04-2006

I would guess the water pump took a shit, engine overheated and then blew a headgasket.

Why didn't you just get it towed? A $75 tow is a hell of a lot better than $3000 for a new motor. Hell, for an extra $50 you could have had a cab drive you to work and you wouldn't have been over an hour late. No offense Lee, I know you were trying to get to work and all, but the fact your engine is gone is completely your fault.....

Also, are you sure it just doesn't need a new radiator, thermostat and waterpump?

- .RJ - 04-04-2006

I bet $125 is more than another junkyard engine costs for that thing Wink

That's an incredibly dick thing to say to someone.

Thermostat is brand new, and my mechanic just inspected the entire vehicle last weekend when he replaced a broken e-brake cable. All he said previously was that he believed the head gasket was about to go because of the loss of coolant over the wintertime. Once the head gasket is done in this type of truck, it's pretty much dead.

Considering a tow truck to the one of the only mechanics I would trust with my vehicles would cost more than the value of the truck itself, I really didn't give a shit about it. I'd rather leave it parked where I know I can clean it out and possibly sell it to one of our Mexican framers who could swap an engine into it and use it for a work truck. The car was a total piece of shit; any of you who have seen it would agree 100%. The price was right though, I got it for free.

I would almost rather spend a couple thousand on a new vehicle instead of a new motor / install costs, even though I can't really afford it right now hah. I need a truck with an extended cab to keep paperwork and tools, and I would definitely like a longer bed. I've found some halfway decent trucks for under $3000 on auto trader, might hit up some of them tomorrow

I actually kind of agree with you Andy, but I'm too tired and bummed to give Adam shit about it hehe =p

Andy Wrote:That's an incredibly dick thing to say to someone.
How is that? If I continued to drive my SHO when it was overheating and I blew the motor in it, I would blame nothing but my own lack of judgement.

My SHO started to overheat on me once because I blew a coolant hose - before the temp gauge was 3/4 of the way to red I killed the engine and let it coast for a half mile in neutral to help it cool off. Total repair cost: $7 and 20 minutes of time. Had I driven it for 2 more miles, I have no doubt it would have seriously overheated and possibly needed a new engine.

Don't get me wrong Lee, I have a ton of sympathy for your shitty day and the fact that your truck broke, I just don't have sympathy that you drove it till you killed it - I know you know better than to do it, but you did it anyway.

On a lighter note, watching a radiator pop is cool as hell 8) - saw it happen once in a parking lot at JMU to a girl who was waiting for a spot to open up. She jumped out after it happened, hysterical, going "OMG, my car just BLEW UP, OMG".

- ViPER1313 - 04-04-2006

Maybe.....

- WRXtranceformed - 04-04-2006

The truck had almost 240,000 miles on it. I don't think there's much I could have done to keep it alive for a lot longer. It was already becoming a hell of a money pit just trying to get it to pass safety inspections.

- Nis01 - 04-04-2006

My day sucked too and I didn't even get to watch anything blow up. Sad

- .RJ - 04-04-2006

I rode a Ducati Monster S2R1000 at lunchtime Wink

My day was pretty good!

- ScottyB - 04-04-2006

sorry Lee Sad at least you got to cause some mayhem. riling up good ol hillbilly boys is amusing too.

did that asshole manager really do any damage? if your superiors know your mentality and work ethic i think you can just tell that asshole guy to lick your balls. i hate people that throw their weight around like that.
