"Until we see him race we won't know his true potential, but it will be very difficult for him," he said. "He might finish fifth or even get on the podium some time, but I could do the same on the bikes if I was given a bit of time to practise."

I still hate Rossi more
but the transition from a bike to a car is much easier than from a car to a bike, and Rossi already has a lot of experience rallying. So my money is on him by a mile.
Anybody know what kind of bike experience alonso has?

I agree, plus Rossi posted some ridiculous times when he first raced an F1 car...he was only like a second behind Schumacher in the lap times.

Alonso responds:
Alonso also responded to MotoGP world champion Valentino Rossi who had challenged the Spaniard to a duel in a F1 car, a MotoGP bike and a rally car. However, the Renault driver was quick to talk down the rivalry.
"I read it in the press as well," Alonso responded when asked if he was aware of the challenge. "I don"t think it"s true. However, if it is, I don"t think I will have the time to do it now. I am concentrating totally on F1, sorry."

Rossi vs Alonso the sage continues:

I think capirossi will win the GP championship this year, and Rossi will resign with Yamaha for another year to defend his title.
