Ads are being picked up by my work's filter - Andy - 02-28-2006

What's going on with the google ads. Our filter thingy at work is telling me it's "adult content" whatever the hell that means. I hope to god it's not advertisement for dildos and the like.

if you can access windows\system\drivers\etc you can eliminate those ads...

C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers

I'm there. What exactly am I looking for?

there is a file located at

c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

if you add the line,

127.0.0.1 pagead2.googlesyndication.com

it will cause your computer to look for the google ads on YOUR computer, which they don't exist and therefore won't show up. I have an hosts file with 1,000's of entries for crap like this, doubleclick/google/yahoo/etc. There are several other hosts that google uses, but I'm at work now and don't have access to my hosts file. Just add that one and if you see another one pop up view the source of the page and find out where it came from.

How do you add the line? I am trying to get rid of all these pop-ups on my goddamn computer and have done everything.
