Ridiculous Motorcycle Accident (video) - Ross.Church - 02-15-2006

Caught this over on the Something Awful forums, but here is a link to the original thread: http://socalsportbikes.info/xmb/viewthr ... 948&page=1

And heres the video: http://media.putfile.com/Accident96

Basically, some idiot in a civic (the hispanic guy in the video) managed to lock up all four wheels (on a bright, sunny day) and swerve into another lane forcing a motorcyclist to hit him. I've seen some dumb driving by cagers but this may take the cake. Fuck him.

i remember seeing this on H-T....ridiculous. Just shows how quickly something like that can happen.... Confusedhock:

begin turn, once weight is all on left side slam brakes....? isn't that easy? Tongue

- Ross.Church - 02-15-2006

Do you guys really think he was intentionally trying to slide into the other lane? I just think hes a moron.

watch how fast he's creeping up on the white car infront of him. I be he thought he was going to hit him and then panicked. It's kinda hard to see with the fish-eye camera.

Moron + panic situation....not good

it's a good thing that guy had a camera on his helmet to have in court incase any litigation would be necessary (makes me wonder how much something like that would cost.)

Listening to the dialog it was a female rider as well (not that it matters in any way)

no, what gave you that impression?

Ross.Church Wrote:I just think hes a moron.

that sums it up. thank god that didn't happen around here cause it would have likely been an h2 rather than a civic.

there i fixed that for ya Tongue , you haven't riden one have you?

- Evan - 02-15-2006

nope. there is dangerous, and there is stupid. stupid is putting your life and health into the hands of every other idiotic driver on the road with little to no protection or saftey. video is case and point

i love 2 wheels. i grew up on a mt bike, and Id love to get a motorcyle, but im just not stupid enough to do it.
anyway, sorry to bring this off topic.

if we look at this and learn from it, its clear that the rider fixated on the civic ( a hard thing not to do) but the area behind the accord to the right was clear, and all he had to do was tap the brake and change lanes behind it.

i bet the dipshit in the civic pulled the classic "oh shit thats my exit in 100feet and im a dumbass speeding in the left lane" last minute lane change.

a similar situation (nothing to this extent) happened to me on a 395 off-ramp and i had to use the left shoulder (rather quickly i might add) to avoid the guy who cut me off. The first place i saw as the car rotated was the opening he left on the left in his own lane. Using evasive manuvers could've helped the rider avoided this accident, but i also think she panicked when she saw the civic rotate. I mean...i wouldn't expect anything like that either. She also could've hit the brakes a lot earlier and harder - but again - i doubt she expected the car to rotate the way it did.

Thats better than going down the centerline splitting traffic to avoid a car pulling out making a right turn in front of you.

I just about shit myself.

Its a choice you have to make, I suppose. Best thing you can do is training (MSF, books, advanced rider courses/track days) and wearing your gear. You cant ever eliminate the danger of riding on the street, but you can do your best to minimize the risk you present to yourself. But every time you thumb the starter, you have to accept the fact that you might be going to the hospital instead of back home. If you cant handle that, then dont get on the bike - riding scared/worried is worse than anything.

If motorcycles are so stupid why are you even in this forum?
