Did you ladies get your tickets...to the GUN SHOW? - CaptainHenreh - 02-11-2006

Well I did. Sort of.

I spent alot of money there.

You may remember:

Well, the wood stock is made for a little chinese person, and the pull was way too short. Very uncomfortable. So 110 bucks later, I remedied the situation:

Tapco adjustable stock (the butt extends outward) 30rd magazine, scope and reciever mount, and a muzzle brake, which you can't really see in the picture.

Here's a closeup of the trigger assembly, scope, mag, and grip:

The mag was 15, the brake 15, the stock 83 (taxed Sad) the scope assembly I bought ages ago for 20 and never bothered to put on.

I was a little disappointed with the magazine -- but it's not the mag's fault. Since I have a chinese SKS, the trigger assembly is very different from all of the other SKS's. So I can still USE the 30 round mag, but it's not detatchable. I have to remove the trigger assembly to remove the mag. This isn't really a big deal, I'll never be in a situation that requires me to have to re-load 30 rounds in 10 seconds, but still...it would have been cool. The scope is some kind of sniper-ish scope with "MOA" rangefinding units on the reticle. Hey, it was cheap, whatever. I'm a little concerned that ejected shells will strike the scope, but I found a 3.95 shell guard that spins the shell downward. Might get that.

Anyway, just thought I'd share.

Very nice man! I'll have to bring my guns up and we'll do some target shooting. Smile Where's the closest shooting range....or a big field?

Good question. I have no idea.

there is an indoor place kinda... in a weird location. down the road that has the big car auction place.

there is also an awesome outdoor range (free, bring your own junk to shoot at) on the other side of the 33W mountain. right as you're coming off the mountain it'll be on your right and is maybe a mile down a dirt road.

yeah that one is cool, plus it gives you a great excuse to drive 33W

the indoor range is off the first harrisonburg exit. take a right at the light and follow that road all the way to the end. the range is the last building on the left

- Mike - 02-12-2006

coming from the south, right?

- bimmerboodle - 02-12-2006

there are very few indoor ranges where you can shoot rifles...even like the SKS...Generally you can shoot on National Forest land...mind your backstop etc. I can shoot on our place out to about 175 yards.
Looks good Rex. Nice find

- derilict - 02-12-2006

Yeah, I've been to both. The indoor one is $9/hour and has cal. and/or f.p.s. limits. The one in W.Va. is more fun cuz you can spend that $9 on gas to go blast over 33W while you're at it.

Shootin' guns and driving, uhh, "spirited" over 33=fun times.

be mindful for junk on the side of the road as well. on nearly every trip out (probably 20 or so) we'd always find a tv or washing machine waiting for the trashman. we were able to shoot our .22 at the indoor range, not sure about an sks, but i'm guessing no.

- Jeff - 02-13-2006

Nice job Rex...I like it. We need to go shootin sometime...the AK needs a new friend. Sometime if you wanna roll up we can grab a jeep and head to our Cabin...nice little range there. Is the SKS a Norinco? Mine is a Norinco MAC-90 imported into CA.

Thats a pretty badass deal. Considering USED bushmaster AR-15s are going for $1100 on the low side. The AK cost me about $330 when I first got it and I have thrown about $150 at it in the new stock, the case, and the 5 30rd mags. I have spent at least what I paid for the whole thing twice over in ammo. Thats the only problem with guns like this...the distructive tendency
