oil in winter - ripley - 01-18-2006 quick question... i havent started my bike since... early november i beleive. I have heard if u start it with settled oil u can screw it up. I have also heard u just put an additive in and your good to go. The oil in it is brand new, maybe 30 miles on it, it's in a storage building that is not heated. Should I get something to put in it before starting it or should I just wait until it is nice and warm/hot out (or heat the building up to about 100 degrees) before starting it? thanks for the help. Brian - ViPER1313 - 01-18-2006 I wouldn't worry about it if it's only been a little over 2 months, especially if the bike has been kept out of the elements. Just let it idle for a while before you ride it 8) - .RJ - 01-18-2006 Changing the oil again before you pull it out of storage is not a bad idea, however starting with oil that was put in fresh before putting it in storage is not going to hurt anything. - ripley - 01-18-2006 awesome, that is a big releif since I want to sell it and then hearing horror stories of starting up with settled oil and needing a pretty much rebuild to fix it. - .RJ - 01-18-2006 Its only been a few months ![]() - ViPER1313 - 01-19-2006 I wouldn't - I would just pull the ignition and crank it a little before starting it. |
