Solstice Sighting - Mike - 01-17-2006

Am I the first in the club to have seen one on the road? Anyway, my short review:

- Rear is pretty good looking. I had never seen one before so I was like "whoa" until I saw the Pontiac badge. I had no idea they were out already.
- The sides look pretty decent as well, the lines work.
- The tires looked to be seriously sucky. They looked like giant all-season, something you'd see on a truck. Not sport at all, but I dunno, maybe they have good grip. They also appeared to not be staggered, which is poo Tongue
- The front... Oh man, the front. It has so much going for it, but here it just falls flat on its face. Had they opened up an actual mouth i would have looked great, but instead they closed it off with two kidney-shaped metal grilles. Awful looking.

Overall, not a bad car, made me do a double-take as did the guy in the Mustang GT. The front end is absolutely horrendous, you won't find me driving one. Hopefully the Saturn will look 10x better.

At least they are bringing a turbo option in a few months Wink And it beat the '06 miata in the GRM test.

- ScottyB - 01-17-2006

i'm with you Mikey....back looks hot, front is not. i have a feeling it will grow on me though....i hated the Z4 and 06 STi at first but now its grown on me.

in other news...i've seen 2 bently continental GT's in the past 3 days and honestly, it is almost impossible to spot one in a parking lot. soooo bland.

- JustinG - 01-17-2006

i saw the solstice over x-mas break, like the first week i was home, front is ass ugly, id have waited on the SKY.

- Sijray21 - 01-17-2006

i saw a LOT of them on the road when i took my killington trip in the first week of january - about 40-50 of them, but they were all on trucks assuming to dealerships

i think they're hot little cars! i don't think the front's that bad, and the rest of the car looks great! I hope someone i know gets one so i get a ride.

Couldn't agree with you more...

in other news, i saw two aston martins on the highway sunday... i want one soooo badly.

- Evan - 01-17-2006

I like the front end. Very unique and original with nice lines, and a hint of 60s sportscar nostalgia. Refreshing alternative to the cookie cutter angular crap that every new car is now.
As much as I like the new miata, the solstice is a much better design than the design-by-committee look of the miata

the coupe concept is pretty fuggin hot too

- Maengelito - 01-17-2006

someone at my work just got one. i dont like the front end either and they are a lot bigger in person than i thought they were, but overall, i think its pretty sharp

- REED - 01-17-2006

Ive seen a couple on the roads, The back end is very interesting and unique, I dont think the front end is too bad either, My biggest complaint are the little flying buttresses off the back of the roof, they look goofy and im sure they make backing up loads o fun. Not to turn this into a mx-5 / solstice debate but I think I'm still leaning more towards the mx-5 after driving one at the mazda event

- Andy - 01-17-2006

It's kind of heavy for such a small car. I think it's like high 2800's. With driver, that's a 3,000 lb pig. I think one of my friends is going to bite the bullet and do something that none of us ever think we'd consider, buy a Saturn. I hope that Saturn retains the clamshell hood and trunk.

- Mike - 01-17-2006

Oh man... you haven't been around long... RJ used to track a saturn, and the Prestons used to own one as well. As far as domestics go, a Saturn isn't half bad for a track/sporty car.

- Mike - 01-17-2006

it really did... what? 130hp, 2300lbs?

- .RJ - 01-17-2006

Yep, 2300 lbs with leather, sunroof, power everything, etc.

You can easily get them under 2200 lbs without all that crap, and fully gutted down about 1900 lbs.

- Mike - 01-17-2006

aside from the aftermarket part issue, and nowhere to race, i don't know why you got away from them. Tongue

- Andy - 01-17-2006

Holy shit, are those clear corners?
When it comes to imports, domestic do suck. Tongue
