Squealing from the car engine. - Andy - 01-16-2006 There's a terrible and random squeal from the engine which initially only occured on startup. I obviously thought it was the belts which were old and cracked, so I replaced them along with the tensioner pulley. Now, it does not squeal as often but it will still do it occasionally.Except now it happens even more randomly. Whether I'm in gear, not in gear, low revs, high revs, it squeals for ~15 seconds, then dissapears. Got any ideas? Also, it doesn't sound like the normal chirping that a crapped out throw out bearing would make. - .RJ - 01-16-2006 Check the other pulleys - could be an a/c clutch or an idler pulley - Chris - 01-16-2006 .RJ Wrote:Check the other pulleys - could be an a/c clutch or an idler pulley yeah my AC pulley used to squeal like a pig when I turned on the AC but I just adjusted the pulley and its fine now. - Ginger - 01-16-2006 Chris Wrote:.RJ Wrote:Check the other pulleys - could be an a/c clutch or an idler pulley Mine did that for a while, too... it started at the begining of a 4 hour trip in July. I forgot about it for a while and it disappeared. - Maengelito - 01-17-2006 my belts squeal every once in awhile especially when its cold. but it does happen randomly - Andy - 01-17-2006 Maengelito Wrote:my belts squeal every once in awhile especially when its cold. but it does happen randomly That sounds about like what happens to me, I'm going to check the tension of the belts. I wouldn't care so much except it happens at the most unfortunate times. The squeal scared the shit out of this old lady the other day as I was backing out at the grocery store. Damn near had to throw her in my trunk and take her to the hospital. - JustinG - 01-17-2006 Maybe your hamster is getting tired???? or needs food????? Maybe your belts are to big, that was a problem i had when i changed my Underdrive pulley. They sent me the wrong size belt had everything tighetened as far as it could go and it was to big. If not try some of the PRestone Belt Dressing, that has solved my winter belt squeals. Or Power Steering Fluid?? - Chris - 01-17-2006 Andy Wrote:Maengelito Wrote:my belts squeal every once in awhile especially when its cold. but it does happen randomly your car has a trunk? - Andy - 01-17-2006 Chris Wrote:Andy Wrote:Maengelito Wrote:my belts squeal every once in awhile especially when its cold. but it does happen randomly If you can call it that. It is a hair bit smaller than a golf bag but it will fit one RJ - ViPER1313 - 01-17-2006 I would bet the AC clutch too - a lot of the time the AC cycles even when the heat is on (to remove moisture in the winter.) - HAULN-SS - 01-17-2006 what he said |
