American Iron Car Prep - white_2kgt - 01-14-2006

Step 1, buy this,

If you fail at Step 1, you can always build your own, like this,

I finally got the car back, it isn't painted yet, cage builder wanted it unpainted, no big deal. When the body shop paints the car they are going to paint the cage as well. Here's the car back in primer,

Remember Before,

And after,

Today, I started by gutting the door,

In retrospeck, I wish I had left the round bar in place. The door doens't quite line up now at the bottom and is VERY flemsey, but whats done is done.

Here's as far as I had got with the interior before taking it to the body shop,

I hate this stuff.

This is as far as I got with the dash and heater core, it is being quite a bitch.

Tomorrow will be the passenger door and I hope the heater core.

Why are you pulling the heater core out? Having a defroster is good, IMO. I left mine in.

Otherwise looking good - you going to make the comp school in Feb?

Didn't use it once last year, just takes up space IMO.

That was the plan, although at this point it is a fleeding plan. I may try for HPDE3 just to get things sorted out, again...
I talked to chris and I can run an eval at CMP to get my license if I miss the comp school.

No, way to hard to get on and off the trailer Big Grin

- white_2kgt - 01-15-2006

Heater Core and A/C box is out, man, that was a big bitch,

Where's Waldo!

This is what it looks like behind my dash,
[Image: IMG_9241.jpg]

And after I cleaned up the wiring,
[Image: IMG_9243.jpg]

Dash is back in place for now, I'm sure they will pull it again when they do the cage, that's why it is only held in by a few bolts.

Project for tomorrow,

Remove the door skin.

- .RJ - 01-15-2006

Looking good Smile

The dash looks like a mess..... for the pass side door, are you doing nascar bars? I dont think they are needed, leaving the door skin and glass in place and an 'x' is fine.

yup, door bars there as well. I thought about doing the X but decided I'd rather have the same stiffness on both sides, plus it wasn't much cost difference. I couldn't leave the glass in either way. When I cut the skin out I loose the supports for the glass.

- Chris - 01-15-2006

wow under that dash is a cluster fuck... but its coming along nicely. I'm so excited to see more and more of MM into racing.

- HAULN-SS - 01-15-2006

hasnt he been into it? lol

- Dave - 01-16-2006

not the actual "racing" aspect, as you can't win HPDE, but Chad has been hitting up the road courses for several years now.

Had some help today getting the rest of the radio system out,
[Image: IMG_9255.jpg]

That was a good 30lbs right there,
[Image: Img_9256.jpg]

Finished cutting out the passenger door,
[Image: IMG_9257.jpg]
Leaving the round bar in didn't help as much with the gap as I would have liked. Oh well.

Made up a mount for the door release latch,
[Image: IMG_9262.jpg]

Christina came home from work early and gave me a hand,
[Image: IMG_9264.jpg]

Some of my stuff from summit racing came in today,
[Image: IMG_9272.jpg]
Driveshaft safety loop and drain plug for rear diff.

Still lots to do but it's coming!

- Ryan T - 01-16-2006

Lookin awesome Chad, can't wait too see the fully finished project!!

- ScottyB - 01-16-2006

good stuff! Christina should get mad props for scraping hot tar out of your car in her suit!

- Feersty - 01-16-2006

Looks good Chad. I would definitely be overwhelmed to take on such a huge project. I am cringing looking at those pictures.
