**So, our shop got hit** UPDATE! - Jeff - 01-13-2006 Well, it happens to every business owner at some point. And for us make this number 5 or 6. Wed. night sometime between 9PM and 7AM the next morning my family's dealership got jacked up. 4 doors were destroyed, 2 cash registers (what morons) all the filing cabinets, and two desks. They got away with only $790 in cash....and....a 2006 Dodge Charger "Daytona." lol. The dumb bastards took the BRIGHT ORANGE Charger. They outfitted it with a plate from a customer's car in for work and jacked my grandfather's screwdriver...we assume to install the plate. They abandoned their car at a church up the road. It was stolen from a dealership in PA a few weeks ago and now has 8000 miles on it. The logic of the whole thing makes me laugh. They broke in... took almost nothing... and picked the MOST conspicuous car we have to run away in  . The money they took won't get them very far... the car had no gas in it and it has the HEMI V8. "Billy, now you best be saving your money for gas or you won't get to go out pillaging with your friends!" Freakin' morons. :x
- Andy - 01-13-2006 Is insurance going to cover it? - Feersty - 01-13-2006 Any pictures of the crime scene? - JohnC - 01-13-2006 Sorry to hear that, but glad to hear the thieves were idiots. - ScottyB - 01-13-2006 sorry dude! hopefully their lack of intelligence will secure their place in jail for them. do you think you'll see the charger on ebay? i mean, what exactly can they do with it, seeing as how you know the VIN and everything, and its not exactly a stealthy getaway car.... - Kaan - 01-13-2006 no they are going to ditch it and pick up another car... and keep moving... duh. - Jeff - 01-13-2006 Kaan is right. It will end up setting in a parking lot somewhere... reeking of smoke, beer, and dirty women. The keys just hanging in the ignition. I doubt they will keep the car long. She small amount of money will force them to do it again at some point and the flashy car was likely more of a novelty then a practical decision. So we will get it back. Insurance will pay for the doors and desks. The registers are old anyway and we just banged them back into shape and threw um back on the desks. lol. As far as insurance with the car, I dont really know. I would guess they will either buy it and give us the minimum they can for it. Or they will pay us "a fair price" for the loss of value and let us deal with selling it. I'll be the first one in line with the "so dad, uh, can I have the stolen, smoked up, half-lifed Charger? Lol I wonder how many times it has been power braked by now.hmmm - ScottyB - 01-13-2006 Kaan Wrote:no they are going to ditch it and pick up another car... and keep moving... duh. well yeah, but even being in the car for a short time is just asking for it....its bright orange hock: i guess you guys didnt find out it was gone until they had already probably ditched it. oh yeah, Jeff, you said this is like the 5th or 6th time you're dealership has been broken into? why not get a better security system after the 3rd or 4th time? or is it just not worth the effort and expense when insurance will get it? - Jeff - 01-13-2006 You would have to ask them about that. I have been screaming for security for the past 2 years. Dad just keeps saying "that is something you can do when you have a say around here." He changed his tune last night. They are gonna look into some cameras I think. Really the only thing that could use a monitored security is the office. A "big loud horn" system is all that is needed in the shop area. Add a few cameras outside and in the critical indoor areas and it would be golden. If you broke a window and came into the shop and set off one of those loud horns mounted up there on the ceiling...you would be getting out of there quick!!! The garage has been hit maybe 5 times in 80 years. Ultimately the cost of loss (we so far have always recovered the cars unharmed) is to low to justify too much security. Plus someone is there almost ALL the time. I dunno. I guess doing a detailed lack of security brake-down on the internet is prolly a bad idea. - .RJ - 01-13-2006 Camers wont stop anyone. Large, angry dogs will. With bees in their mouths. - JohnC - 01-13-2006 .RJ Wrote:With bees in their mouths. But then what would happen should the dogs bark? - Jeff - 01-13-2006 My boss at CC said we need pitbull-lab mixes. He says its like a huge musclebound lab with a pitbull head. - Dragon - 01-13-2006 .RJ Wrote:Camers wont stop anyone. No no, sharks with freiking laser beams, that's where it's at. - mpg9999 - 01-13-2006 JohnC Wrote:.RJ Wrote:With bees in their mouths. Why they would shoot bees at you of course. For the slow one's "What are you gonna do? Sick your dogs on me? Or your bees? Or dogs with bees in their mouth so when they bark they shoot bees at me?"
- Ryan T - 01-13-2006 Actually since dogs have to inhale to bark, they'd just swallow all the bee's and be completely worthless. - .RJ - 01-13-2006 Ryan T Wrote:Actually since dogs have to inhale to bark, they'd just swallow all the bee's and be completely worthless. you --> the point ----------------------------------------------> .
- Kaan - 01-13-2006 why would you use a putbull/lab mix? buy some damn pitbulls or shepards or something. most of the local shops that are fenced off have shepards that are lose at night and when the owner shows up they go to their pins (10ftx40ft). even the local "dealer only auctions" place has 5 dogs that run around their HUGE lot at night. - Chris - 01-13-2006 .RJ Wrote:Camers wont stop anyone. cameras would at least identify the criminals and put them in jail. in my company we install cameras that are self cooling, heating, and infared for at night. we hook them up to a DVR (digital video recorder) which records when any motion is sensed and is stored onto a hard drive, and can be recorded onto a PC. you can even view the cameras over the internet from anywhere. - .RJ - 01-13-2006 Chris Wrote:cameras would at least identify the criminals and put them in jail. Well that assumes that the cameras are good enogh to make a positive ID in low light - and if the theives are wearing ski masks, then good luck with that. This also assumes you catch the theives, and they'll ditch the car before that happens. RJ - who got robbed at gunpoint, with a camera, and they still couldnt catch the guys (who were not wearing facemasks, in a well lit place). - Andy - 01-13-2006 .RJ Wrote:RJ - who got robbed at gunpoint, with a camera, and they still couldnt catch the guys (who were not wearing facemasks, in a well lit place).
