Parking brake light - Feersty - 01-10-2006

For some reason my parking brake light on my dash comes on randomly even when my parking brake is down. There doesn't seem to be any trend to when it flashes on and off. For the last few days it has been pretty random.

Fwiw, I did notice it flash on while I took a turn fairly spirited. Focusfanatics says brake fluid should be checked, but they feel stout as hell. Is it an eletrical glitch?

So, did you?

The brake fluid reservoir has a little sensor in it, when the fluid is low, it flashes on. This could also mean your pads are low and need replacement (caliper pistons extend, fluid in reservoir drops).

I did get shreeking from the brakes last night, after getting home.

- .RJ - 01-10-2006

Check your fluid level and pad thickness.

- Feersty - 01-10-2006

I checked prices for brake pads, EBC Greenstuffs is what is suggested on FF. It came out to $252 for 4 pads. Can I find these any cheaper somewhere else? Do you suggest changing all 4 at the same time?

- Evan - 01-10-2006

dont even think about touching anything made by EBC, epecially greenshit.

Axxis Ultimates or Cobalt Bobcat are your 2 best options

we have talked about brakes several times in the past, search and read up

- .RJ - 01-10-2006

EBC is junk.

Are you doing anything with the car that OEM pads and fluid will not be sufficient? Call Matt @ Carbotech and tell him I sent you.

- Mike - 01-10-2006

are you brake pads even toast? did you check your fluid? i can almost guarantee it is the fluid being low. please describe "brake shreeking" when you car is sitting still...

- white_2kgt - 01-10-2006

Flashing e-brake light on fords means fluid is low, since it is a pretty easy check, do it.

agreed

i had EBC greenstuffs and they BLEW - sooo much brake dust (they advertise minimal to none....utter bullshit) and their braking power was about the same as stock - i didn't notice a difference at all.

Axxis Ultimates - for street pads!

don't buy pads before you check out the pads that are already on there. check the fluid before you do anything. A fresh flush and replacement couldn't hurt since you just bought the car.

- Feersty - 01-10-2006

I will attempt to check the fluid today.

I mispoke I wasn't standing still, I was still on my way back home.

Make sure you wear safety goggles and disconnect the battery terminals before you attempt this.

- Evan - 01-10-2006

lol....Rob you have put more time and effort into starting this thread than it would have taken to check the fluid and pads

- Mike - 01-10-2006

and put the car on stands and remove the rear left wheel.

- Andy - 01-10-2006

Make sure you check the flux capacitor, sometimes when that thing acts up, it can give you a bunch of weird lights especially on Fords. I loaned RJ my tester, but you can get it from him. It's a pretty straight forward diagnostic test.

- navin - 01-10-2006

haha, you guys are evil..

- JohnC - 01-10-2006

Donate the car to charity.
