Well, I dumped it - .RJ - 12-27-2005

Just 1600 miles on the bike since I got it.... pulling into the parking lot at work, slowing down, doing about 5mph I start to turn into the parking spot and *bam*, I was on the ground before I knew what the hell happened. The culprit? Black ice. Bike has a few more scratches on it, but i'm fine and my gear didnt even get scratched up. My knee is a bit sore, but hopefully it will clear up during the day. I'm a bit pissed about the ice in the parking lot, since its been above freezing for about 2 straight weeks.

Oh well. Live and learn.

Sad

- Ginger - 12-27-2005

That sucks.

It ain't worse, and that's good. Only thing better you could have asked for is to crash on my bike Wink

- .RJ - 12-27-2005

I guess I'm more pissed at myself about this than anything, since its the knee that was already sort of busted, should have seen it coming and was probably 100% preventable.

Oh well. I'm probably going to leave work early, go home, and ice this thing down.

- Feersty - 12-27-2005

Did anyone see you do it?

lol.. no. But, I smell like gas, so I told my coworkers.

- Dragon - 12-27-2005

That sucks dude, sorry to hear that. Black ice is a rather tricky so don't beat yourself up too much.

- Evan - 12-27-2005

sorry to hear it RJ

there is still a ton of ice in my neighborhood where there is shade. it still drops well below freezing at night. id park the bike until spring if i were you. but then again if I were you I wouldnt have bought a bike in the first place Wink

Evan Wrote:park the bike until spring

That may be the best idea.... I'll be off the bike for a few days to think about what I want to do for the rest of the year. I guess its better at 5mph in a parking lot than at 35mph while i'm getting my lean on and end up in a tree/guardrail/car.

- Mike - 12-27-2005

meh, you knew it was gonna happen eventually. now you're aware that is actually can happen so you're less likely to put yourself in that situation again. all in all, doesn't sound like too bad a learning experience.

now that it is damaged, $500? Tongue

good luck with your knee.

- Kaan - 12-27-2005

well, you did know better Tongue but you are right... at least you werent getting your lean on when it happend... you live and learn... are you done playing with cold tires, black ice, and NOVA drivers that freak out when it looks like its going to rain? wait till the spring time you whore! and rest that knee ... you'll need it to drag on the road in the spring.

- .RJ - 12-27-2005

At home with some ice on the knee. It feels 100x better than it did a few hours ago, so I dont think there's any injury at all. Just a few days being nice to it and some ice and I should be good to go.

my ice "pack"

Rj you mentioned selling your bike eventually, my friend is looking around for a nice cheaper bike. First off, are you selling yours in the next few months...
Second, any recommendations on trying to find cheap bikes?

- .RJ - 12-27-2005

I will be selling late spring, after I put some more miles on this one to gain more experience - i'll be asking $1500. I could be convinced to part with it sooner if there were cash involved, however.

To find a good, cheap bike requires quite a bit of patience. Cycletrader, craigslist, ebay, etc - a lot of the older, cheap bikes have been binned, burned, junkyarded, etc.

On the ride home, i put some u2 on the mp3 player, took it easy and it was fine. Tracks straight, accelerates, stops, shifts, and most importantly leans fine. I didnt hurt the bike any worse than it already is Wink I may replace the engine cover if I can find one on ebay, although its really not that bad, and i'll replace the windscreen (cracked).

On to another thing....

The priority of getting a set of riding boots and textile pants has been bumped up considerably. Kneepucks would be cool Wink but I want to make sure that if this shit happens again I wont get hurt, because thats sure as shit not why I'm on 2 wheels.

- .paul - 12-27-2005

glad your okay.

newenough has a good deal on the A* SMX boots - which are incredibly comfortable. i aquired them this christmas... w00t

alcohol makes the pain go away

- D_Eclipse9916 - 12-28-2005

Yeah my friend would definitely be interested for 1500, any things wrong with the bike? Why was the clutch so hard to pull, is that something that needs to be fixed or is just the way that bike is?

- .RJ - 12-28-2005

I need to replace the clutch cable - i have another one here waiting to go in actually Smile
