Why do you love cars? - WRXtranceformed - 11-27-2005 I love the feeling of speed, no matter what medium it's in. I love sexy lines on a car almost as much as I like them on a woman. I love the sound of a sick, sick exhaust note. I love boost. I love the bond they can give you with a complete stranger. I love that driving on open, twisty mountain or countryside roads on a sunny day will be a deathbed memory of mine. Why do you love cars? - Ginger - 11-27-2005 It means escape. The bike even more. - ScottyB - 11-27-2005 i love the embodyment of speed and power that cars take on. some are like missles, others have huge flares, arches, and blunt creases like sinewy muscle. others still take on features of predators, with gills, fins and peircing eyes. i love the noise. hearing a raw, unabated performance engine change from a snorting idle into a crushing, high rpm blast. the fighter-jet turbine whine from a huge turbo waking up. tires wailing at the very edge of their hold on the earth, gears sounding a cressendo up the scale as the car hurls down the straight. i love the speed. gear after gear of total hell-bent, no joke acceleration. i love seeing a car slam to it's hauches under the commanding fury of a high rpm launch. i love feeling the wind come through open windows with more and more turbulence until it deafens you from even hearing the engine. i love being forced to hold on to the steering wheel because i've unleashed a furious animal only to find that i have the reigns in my sweaty hands. i love the precision. exact tolerances and perfect harmony, like a living, breathing metallic organism. feeling one change affecting another, and being part of an Order in the complexity of the experience. i love the way modifications must be thought out and executed with fine care and loving attention in order to extract maximum performance. i love the connection. a human being, never meant to deal with data pouring through the windshield at 200 mph, can perform a visceral dance with the most primal emotions from the driver's seat. taking control of a wild creature and skillfully manipulating every movement with the precision of a surgeon, if the skill is there. i love the commaraderie. the culture that exists because people of every walk of life find common ground under the hood of a car. stories can be told about experiences that only an obsessed person can relate to, and find joy in sharing. there are few bonds like those shared by people that pour their free time into creating something that moves, reacts, and sounds as what they see in their dreams. - JohnC - 11-27-2005 I like wheels, and sniffing gasoline. Oh, and total financial destruction. - D_Eclipse9916 - 11-27-2005 I like cars for the same reasons I like women. They smell good They got beautiful shapes and you dont know what their going to bitch about from one day to the next (or is this only for dsms? hah) - ScottyB - 11-27-2005 JohnC Wrote:I like wheels. i wanna be wheel whore #2, then. - Dave - 11-27-2005 my god, what the hell is Scotty driving, cuz I want one! I love looking at a car. Watching how the lines of each panel work together to make the whole being. How the arches, bends, curves, and planes all work together to give the appearance of muscle and tendon lying beneath the sheet metal. How each part seems to have it's own sole purpose but all works together in one way or another. I love working on them. Being able to drive a car to the limit, knowing that you have developed it to that point. I like being under a car and seeing how each little peice works in accordance with all other related parts. I love that it gives me a goal to spend my money. Many goals of mine are related to cars, and are often what gets me through the work days. I love walking out to my car after a good wash and wax, and seeing it gleaming in the sun, begging me to go take it for a spin so it can stretch its legs. I love the sudden rush as the turbo spools up, forcing exponential amount of air into the combustion chamber, feeding off hot exhaust gases. I love the way a car can make a person have instant admiration and freindship just because there is a common interest. The way it can bring people together who would otherwise never have anything in common. I love how the way an engine is built can result in such a different exhaust note. I6, V6, V8, V10, V12, I4, flat 6, and of course the blat of the flat 4. I like how an exhaust changes simply because of the different bends and angles and placement of resonators as it moves toward the rear of the car. I love the feeling of being pressed back into the seat as an engine approaches its torque peak, or the sound as it screams toward its redline. I love how each vehicle is designed with a specific intent. Whether it be to haul around loads, cruise along as a commuter, or scream to the heavens on a racetrack, each has a mission to perform. Cars, I love 'em. - .RJ - 11-27-2005 asteele2 Wrote:The bike even more. +1 - Mike - 11-27-2005 i actually hate cars. - WRXtranceformed - 11-27-2005 Yeah I realized that "cars" is kind of biased and should probably be expanded to include bikes and trucks and other motorsports vehicles. - Kaan - 11-28-2005 I love "cars" because no matter how beat (Scirocco) or busted (Crx)... all my cars are more consistant than any woman i've ever dated. Just get in and drive. My car is practically my only escape from the "world." I cant hear my cell phone ring in the car... so you cant even reach me while i'm on the road... big plus ![]() Letting go on a motorcycle... really riding... even the "oh shit i almost lost it" moments... can rank right up there with having sex with your average woman... sure you might die on the bike... but she could give you AIDs too ![]() Plus when you take the right roads... the motorcycle is like making out with a fat woman... you crawl all over that thing... trying to get it to turn but its much cooler than making out with a fat woman...
- Sijray21 - 11-28-2005 As stated as everyone else, my reasons are within most of the previous posts. Driving/Riding is my release method and activity. Before work it's a transition period, after work it's a release period, and every other day it's just a joy. Not only is it control and power over 'an amazing machine' (as Johnny Tran put it best), but it's my safety/security blanket. The experience of driving can also be enjoyed with the music i love. My eclectic taste in music allows me to just relax and soak up the experience. Some of my favorite memories and experiences have been due to driving. So many talks, so many cruises, and so many truly happy and enjoyable experiences have happened because of my car. Some of my specific favorite memories when driving include: -Nightly spirited drives through the rural roads of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County with my roommates (nothing reckless, just spirited driving on open roads) -Cruising along the Outer Banks road with sand and water on both sides watching the sunset and listening to Paul Okenfold's Another World CD i just bought -Running through the roads of the aspen mountains in Colorado -Cruising down the Pacific Coastal Highway (PCH - rt.1) down the California Coastline near San Francisco and seeing the beautiful matching of mountain side with coastal driving -all the hear-to-heart talks with specific people about personal situations on certain drives Your car will always be there for you. If you're down, if you're bored, if you're just wanting to do something fun - you can take your car. I also feel very detached without my car. When i leave for vacation or for another reason and i am unable to drive it really does feel like i'm missing something. It's always a reunion when i return as well. All of that was from a more personal level, but as Scotty said the camaraderie you obtain from a car culture is irreplaceable. It's also quite exclusive. It's like you already know what the person is feeling without even saying a word. It's like an exclusive club that you don't need a fee to join. IÔÇÖm also learning about the two-wheel culture and understanding what they do and why they do it. Riding a motorcycle is unlike any other feeling IÔÇÖve had with a car. Riding is a different and just as good and better in some situations. I love my vehicles and I love driving and riding. - Evan - 11-28-2005 cars are like hookers. I dont like cars, I like what I can do with one. - Andy - 11-28-2005 Evan Wrote:cars are like hookers. By far the most profane post ever, yet somehow completely true. - WRXtranceformed - 11-30-2005 I love scotch. Scotch Scotch Scotchy Scotch Scotch. - Feersty - 11-30-2005 Cars suck if you car is hoodwrench, if not, then it is a more enjoyable experience. I can't say I love cars right now because nice ones are far from me right now, but I could be close to one sooner or later. - navin - 11-30-2005 I've been thinking about saying "F it" sell the car and enjoy my 20's while they last, focus on school and enjoy it later down the road time/life permits.. but then again I wouldnt want to take the financial hit of selling my car for a lot cheaper than I have invested, eventhough I knew that when I first installled something on it. hey Rob, buy my caR! - .RJ - 11-30-2005 Feersty Wrote:Cars suck if you car is hoodwrench Not always. I generally hate cars...... right up to the point i roll out of pit lane on a saturday morning
