Last time I dealt with chatter it was from plate misalignment... but for a car I just bought I probably wouldn't tolreate it - take it back and ask them to fix it.

- ScottyB - 11-25-2005

take it back.

- JackoliciousLegs - 11-25-2005

It's going back and I'm getting a loaner... carmax was real cool about it. Subaru said it's probly a plate misalignment like you said.. Either way, they're extending my return period as well. Crapmax +1

Got a call from carmax this morning saying that they couldn't replicate the problem. I told them to try again. Got another call at 2pm saying the same thing. THey invited me to come out and take them for a ride. 1:20mins later, I show up, pull the car out of the garage with the tech in it, and it chatters! The tech says "let me try that!" and indeed, it chattered. I walked back in and was like

THAT"S RIGHT BITCHES

Then I handed them the TSB from subaru about it. They're gonna fix it. I'll keep you all posted.

or put it in 1st, depress the clutch, roll backwards down a big hill, get up to speed and let off the clutch! then they won't have a problem finding whats wrong with it.

My clutch started chattering when the disc was getting completly worn down. I ended up replacing the clutch and pressure plate and the problem was solved.

Hope carmax gets it all taken care of for you Jack.

I called Carmax today and they were like, a service mgr needs to feel it before it goes in for repair... ok... wtf. They took it out and again... no problem. (so they say) I got fed up and called subaru and worked my way up to regional service head. He confirmed that 99-02 imprezas had a clutch chattering problem and that my symptoms sounded just like it. He said that if I bring the car in, he'd make sure they took care of it... under the 5/60 powertrain warranty. Sweet.

Fucking carmax... I'm calling them tomorrow and telling them to send the car to Subaru. If the repair isn't done by thursday, I'm returning it. HF#$*#H@*!!! There's a mini cooper S i'm looking at replacing the impreza with if it falls through.
