Yeah really, with a top speed of 75 mph, even with a head start it wasn't close.
I wonder if the Moto GP bike could've beat the car? I'm thinking yes because the aero advantage of the car probably wouldn't be enough to win by the quarter mile mark.

The Honda HM Plant BSB bikes are probably more around $75k to $100k (probably more considering they are HRC leased bikes) but still, peanuts in comparison to what went into the BAR007.
But yeah, it definitely would've been more interesting to see the RC211V go up against the BAR007. The RCV has around 50 more hp, a good deal less weight, and the benefit of launch control.

now what I'd like to know is, how much power would the boat have to have in order to start from 0 at the line and make it a fair fight with the car?

boats have a "hull speed" where no matter how much power you pump into them, they just wont go any faster.

that just can't be true? It lifts out of the water more as it goes faster, drag should start falling off as that happens right? I never had a course in hydrodynamics though.... I'm sure if you strapped a big enough rocket engine on that thing, it'd go 0-60 in 3 seconds and finish just like those guys. Except upside down and in pieces of course. :lol:

good point. i didn't read the article but i'm guessing that hull speed has alot to do with typical vee hulls. those boats are designed to hydroplane on just a few square feet of contact patch....plus, the big jet engine helps :lol:

thanks for the article! Yup, sounds like "hull speed" doesn't really apply to a boat like this, or like those jet boats pictured above. Once they lift out of the water, "hull speed" no longer applies. Ok, a second of searching pretty much answered my question....
