New additions to the family... - JohnC - 11-09-2005

I know Jess mentioned these guys a while ago, but I finally had the chance to upload some pictures...

Maggie (with the pink collar) and Bruce (with the blue collar) joined us from the local animal shelter (where Jess volunteers). They were found in a ditch along Route 6, when they were about 3-4 weeks old. Out of the litter of 4, we took home these two, and the others went separately to good homes:

This was the day after they came home (back in August, I think), ~8 weeks old...

So damn fuzzy the camera can't even focus!

And oh lord how they stink...

This pictures is from last month, puppies grow *really* fast. By this point the newspaper was just for playing with - we haven't had an "accident" in a couple of months. Crate training is paying off!

They're both easily over 20lbs now, Maggie is probably up to almost 30. And they learned yesterday how to unlatch the gate on their backyard run  Their favorite thing to do now (besides eat) is to chase tennis balls around the dining room when we're inside and chase bugs when we're outside Smile They're great 8)

aw man those dogs rock! they look like black labs, are they? in those first few pics they look more like bear cubs than dogs, haha. great to hear they all went to good homes. and whoever left them in a ditch can eat shit as far as i'm concerned.

i can't let Jen see this thread or she'll insist we blow our savings on a black lab puppy.

They're a lab/chow mix - Bruce is mostly chow, Maggie is mostly lab. Apparently in the canine world, its pretty common for puppies from the same litter to have different fathers - that looks to be the case here.

And the difference in breed between them is apparent not only in their appearance, but personality as well. Bruce is very reserved and can be stubborn (unless you have a treat in your hand), while Maggie is extremely outgoing and playful. Like I said before though, they're both great...

Awesome dogs man! It's even better that you rescued them. You'll have to bring them to an event next year Big Grin

what happened to the rabbits?

- JohnC - 11-09-2005

Evan Wrote:what happened to the rabbits?

Well like I said, the puppies gained some weight...

Nah - the rabbits are still around. Just a little more wary is all. We don't allow any interaction between the dogs and the rabbits, and frankly right now the dogs are pretty well trained to not even glance that direction when they walk by on their way to the front door...

Probably the minute you quit asking dumb questions. So, never.
