Going to check this out this weekend, possibly buy - WRXtranceformed - 11-08-2005 Meeting up with Bo on Saturday to check out his car and maybe take it for a test drive. Here's the clicky Quick details if you're too lazy to read it all: Ultimate racing GT-35R turbo kit + supporting mods FMIC UTEC Tein Flex coilovers with EDFC (very cool) In-car PC touch-screen Bunch more stuff Pics: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Thoughts? Other than the risks of purchasing a used, heavily modified car. - CaptainHenreh - 11-08-2005 EDFC makes you illegal for most racing. Just, so you know. And so, uh, if you get this...what happens to the WRX? - WRXtranceformed - 11-08-2005 Probably sell it as is. I don't know if I feel like returning it to stock, although it might get more money broken down. - Nis01 - 11-08-2005 Looks like a nicely built STi. He seems to be selling it for a pretty decent price.. either good or bad. As far as I have heard the car/transmission can take a pretty big beating.. including upgraded turbo (haven't heard any bad comments as of yet). I do not know much about "heavily" modded subies but it seems to have plenty of supporting mods for safe tuning. Of course there are always risks buying anything used.. especially modded but he seems to be big into the Subaru community and know his stuff from what I've seen on the forums. Subie road trip? Oh and btw... I'd hit it! Good luck. - WRXtranceformed - 11-08-2005 Hah so Shea and I were just doing some research, and apparently that turbo is capable of 650 horsepower. Read about one guy running it at 28 psi on race gas. Shea found 350 whp at 14 psi and 390 at 19 psi. Solid =D - Feersty - 11-09-2005 That body kit is a little bit too much for me. But 3 STi's in a club isn't bad at all, but remember Maeng already has a blue one...lol. - ScottyB - 11-09-2005 whoa, sounds like this thing is a beast. glad to see you're staying in the suby family 8) i would imagine you could get more for your WRX parting it out, but thats such a pain in the ass. - white_2kgt - 11-09-2005 oh yea, I know that guy, hes on the local MD board. Are you friends w/ him? - WRXtranceformed - 11-09-2005 Nope not friends, but he's on the local Subaru board as well. I've only spoken to him a few times through PMs. Seems like a cool guy. - white_2kgt - 11-09-2005 WRXtranceformed Wrote:Nope not friends, but he's on the local Subaru board as well. I've only spoken to him a few times through PMs. Seems like a cool guy. Well, good luck. Personally, I hate the fucking kid, but that's just me. If you want to do some research here's his board that he spun off mine when we had sort of a falling out so to speak. http://www.itsjustatheory.com/ - ScottyB - 11-09-2005 white_2kgt Wrote:http://www.itsjustatheory.com/ so it's a forum for people who don't like intelligent design? i can't see that there'd be a whole lot to talk about after a while....ha, i'll stick to car stuff. - WRXtranceformed - 11-12-2005 Going for a test-drive at 1:00pm in Alexandria. I'll report back how everything checks out. Any ideas on how I could get a compression test done, seeing as his car is up in Silver Spring normally? I know you can do them yourself but I have no idea how to do one, nor what the typical readings for a healthy STI engine are. - Mike - 11-12-2005 too late, but all you did is pull the wires, pull the fuel pump relay, pull the spark plugs, insert the gauge in to each cylinder (screws in like a spark plug) and crank the car like 3 rotations. how did it go? - .RJ - 11-12-2005 easier said than done on a boxer engine.... - Mike - 11-12-2005 oh
- WRXtranceformed - 11-13-2005 Here are my thoughts on this car. OH MY GOOD GOD! That was quite possibly the fastest car I've ever driven. For anyone who I've taken for a ride in my car since all the updates, it feels like it's literally 3 times as powerful as my car. The GT35-R is a huge ass turbo that's given people unbelievable numbers, and I can attest to how hard this thing pulls. There's a good bit of lag until like 3800-4000 rpms, and then it feels literally like your car hit a brick wall. The external wastegate dump tube he has set up is so freaking loud too at WOT. It screams like the car is possessed hah. What I wasn't used to was the really touchy STI steering rack. You've really got to be holding on to the fucker when you mash the pedal. On my first and second acceleration attempt the car had so much torque that it wanted to buck sideways. An AWD car wanting to buck sideways... We went for a ride near Episcopal High School in Alexandria with me, my girlfriend, the owner and his wife. In my car, if I'm hauling 3 people around, with a full tank of gas, there is a noticeable decrease in its acceleration. NOT in this STI though. I can't imagine what it feels like driving that alone. Overall impression: I liked the body kit in person, except for the rear bumper which I knew I wouldn't. We talked about maybe having him revert that and / or the front one back to stock... which wouldn't be terrible for him because he'd make some money out of it. The car is in great shape except for the scratch on the passenger door which he was very upfront about. The rims look a LOT better in person, but gold really isn't my style. He said he'd lower the price a little if I wanted the BBS stockers he has that he powdercoated black instead. The exhaust is really freaking loud. I'd probably swap that out with mine or something similar with a high flow cat so I can pass emissions. The EDFC is very cool as was the in-car PC that had the UTEC hooked up to it for datalogging as well as MP3s, etc etc. He also has the TurboXS DTEC hooked up to a Game Boy Advance on the dash acting as just a boost guage for now. While we took it for a test drive, I got a huge smile and thumbs up from a guy driving a Mazda 6. I haven't gotten one of those in a long time =p I think I found a winner. Waiting on the results of a compression test he's having done at Andrewtech Automotive, an unbelievable mechanic in Maryland that the local Subaru community swears by. I just have to look into some loan info on my end and start the process of selling my car and I think it's a go =D - Nis01 - 11-13-2005 Nice Lee. Sounds like a great car and the owner really was interested in telling you every detail about the car. Good luck with the switch and congratulations. Never heard of anybody being dissapointed in going with the STi... Especially one with a snail bigger than most household animals. - Mike - 11-13-2005 you will officially have the fastest car in mm good luck with the loan shizzle!
- Feersty - 11-13-2005 Glad to see things turned out nice. - WRXtranceformed - 11-13-2005 Welp, the first steps have been taken ^_^ http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=882708 Free bumps would be great if you're already a member =D |
