I've been pondering this all day... - Mike - 11-07-2005 And I just don't get it... A Lamborghini Countach... 5L V12 pumping 475hp and 370ft-lbs (not a power issue)... 345 a/r rear tires (not a traction issue)... 3300lbs (not a weight issue)... 14.6s 1/4 mile.... How is my car which has half the horsepower, half the tire, and a third the torque half a second faster? http://www.motortrend.com/features/112_ ... ndex3.html - cool article btw. - Feersty - 11-07-2005 Sounds incorrect! - Mike - 11-07-2005 Feersty Wrote:Sounds incorrect! cite otherwise... "268-ci V-12/475 hp, 0-60 6.0, 1/4 mile 14.6/100.4" - Evan - 11-07-2005 marketing? advertising? payoff? the exact same ITR got faster in C/D tests every year...... - PDenbigh - 11-07-2005 Gearing? Unlikly but possible.. - Mike - 11-07-2005 PDenbigh Wrote:Gearing? Unlikly but possible.. 475hp... gearing can't be THAT bad. - Feersty - 11-07-2005 Well it certainly wasn't "The Stig" doing the quarter runs. - Ryan T - 11-07-2005 So your car runs a 14 flat in the 1/4? I find that hard to believe. - Mike - 11-07-2005 Ryan T Wrote:So your car runs a 14 flat in the 1/4? I find that hard to believe. sorry, do your homework. 13.8-14.2 is what is run most often so i average that and say 14 flat. - .RJ - 11-07-2005 my car is faster than yours, and it sure as hell aint a 14 flat. - damnit458 - 11-07-2005 .RJ Wrote:my car is faster than yours, and it sure as hell aint a 14 flat. His car is lighter than yours. Although 14 sounds a little fast. I seem to remember H22a hatches running high 13's and that being normal... Edit: Im assuming by RJ's post you mean the hatch and not the s2k...correct me if im wrong - .RJ - 11-07-2005 damnit458 Wrote:Edit: Im assuming by RJ's post you mean the hatch and not the s2k...correct me if im wrong I keep forgetting he bought that shitpile. - Ryan T - 11-07-2005 Mike Wrote:Ryan T Wrote:So your car runs a 14 flat in the 1/4? I find that hard to believe. my bad my bad, for some reason I thought you were talking about your civic. Yeah, S2000's are easly high 13's low 14's. I actually ran beside one at the drag strip when I had my Z28. I ran a 13.9 and so did he. Dead on race. - Beej - 11-07-2005 Well, not easily... - KPWSerpiente - 11-07-2005 Please don't talk about what your car runs unless you have a timeslip. If you think it will run a 14 flat go try it out. -T - .RJ - 11-07-2005 Well when you have a stock car and pretty well documented 1/4 mile times.... not much point is there? Re: I've been pondering this all day... - getfast - 11-07-2005 Mike Wrote:And I just don't get it... Firstly, there is no chance a stock '80 Countach (LP400S, 2-valve carbureted) made 475hp. It wasn't even a 5 liter ('82? was the first of the 2-valve 5 liter V12's IIRC?) making even a gray-market '80 an LP400S with the 4-liter and 6 Webers. So basically a Miura motor but lengthwise instead of transverse. I'd say 375hp is about right, and torque around 280, just from memory. Secondly, the gearing in those cars is insane... first will take you to damn near 60mph, but the 1-2 shift takes FOREVER, being racing-reverse (i.e. where 2nd is in normal cars) and being a balky old euro-bahn-burner where first gear is only for parking lots, so the 1-2 shift is far less important (i.e. slooooow) than the 2-3 and 3-4 and 4-5 shifts in their reverse H pattern. Thirdly, 3300 pounds is probably a "dry" weight. I'd say it's more like 3800 pounds with a test driver and a full load of fuel (they held 30+ gallons IIRC.) But I could be wrong. Jon - getfast - 11-07-2005 Also keep in mind, back then that Lambo was designed for high speed touring not straight line acceleration from a stop. That car shined at things like the 60mph to 160mph sprint, or 120+ mph cornering. They didn't do 13's until the mid-late 80's, probably because so many owners bitched. An S2000 is a technical marvel for sure, far more efficient on all counts than any handbuilt Italian poosay fetching mobile artwork. You bet your ass they designed the S2000's driveline with 1/4 mile numbers in mind, because that's what all the magazines test and publish, and it's the favorite american benchmark for "performance." Technology and traction have come a LONG way in 30 years  Jon - KPWSerpiente - 11-07-2005 Whatever. I forgot that if 100 other people have done it that means Mike would do it to. No need to actually try. I don't understand why it's hard to believe that a POS Italian track car with a high revving v12 and gearing for road courses cannot leave the line in a reasonable amount of time. -T - Ryan T - 11-07-2005 I'd like to see what kind of 60' that lambo put down. |
