CHEAP newbie bikes - Martin - 03-31-2004
hey all,
starting this thread for anyone that's interested in cheap starter bikes. My roomate and I are local mechanics and we get some killer deals.
We're attending a DC Police auction this tuesday, there are a goldmine of good project bikes. I got room in my trailer for an extra if anyone is interested in a bike. Let me know your budget and what your interested in, and how dirty you wanna get workin on it.
Heres a little sampler of what we've gotten recently:
2002 Ninja 250 $600
1987 Ninja 750 $300
1987 CBR 600 $200
none of these are pretty but they're mechanically sound
My roomate Joel and I will be more than happy to help get your bike on the road.

It would be awesome to get this forum hoppin, the Valley has some of the best riding on the east coast.. I'm sure some of you AutoX'ers might catch the bug. Track days are mad fun too.
The 87 CBR is gonna be the learnin' bike for newbies and a stuntbike for myself
. It's gonna have a crash cage so it's gonna be pretty tough. And a 75% increase in gearing.Rob and I have started typing up a comprehensive new rider guide. sounds like very good condition is hard to find at police auctions. I'd search around some.

yea it's not the place to find the minty bikes. They're all super cheap though-like 1/8th of blue book on average.
I'm getting the breakdown of what they have tommorow. If it's something that's interesting to anyone, hit me up, i'll pick it up for ya.

Martin, do you happen to live next to Hunter in Fox Hills? I guess your in the bike club? I've been talking to Rob Lam about the show, just wanted you to tell all the bike people in town you know to check out the show! We'd like to see more bikes pre-register online since the bike category is new to the show this year. thanks

I'm in the bike club, I think i'm the treasurer. Its a little disorganized. Yea Hunter is my neighborino, good guy.
I'll try to get the local boys. They got some nice bikes
It would be cool to have a stunt show, JMU wouldn't go for it though.

DC Police are the suckiest bunch of sucks that ever sucked. get this-5 days before the auction, they pushed back the bike auction a month ahead, to an indefinite date. This is the third time they've done this since I've been going.
