new track near Williamsburg - Chris - 10-06-2005

http://www.dragonsridge.com/Index.asp

not sure when the scheduled date of opening is, but probably won't be for a while.

anyone have more info?

- Evan - 10-07-2005

yeah that was announced, I think around 2 years ago? It has gone through several cycles of being approved and dissaproved by the county government. I think the last result was that it was approved...but who knows if that stuck. These types of matters tend to end up in favor of the locals if they bitch and whine loud enough unfortunately. (see: National GP)

I drive by the site every time I go home (I grew up in Williamsburg) and I havent even seen the trees cleared yet.....

- Evan - 10-07-2005

this was/is the proposed track configuration. Looks awesome

where the hell are the high speed, grab your nuts corners?

looks like another alan wilson track.

- Chris - 10-07-2005

oh man! thats my dream job (manage/own) right there... its got all the hospitality aspects like the drivers village. also karting, skid pad, the works! I've gotta figure that out somehow, anyone have millions of dollars sitting around?

waaaaaah

there actually is one on the east track, and what looks to be a pretty high speed esses section on the west track

- .RJ - 10-07-2005

looks just like beaverun Wink

- Evan - 10-07-2005

damn i need to go back there soon. love that track

- Mike - 10-07-2005

east track looks a lot like cmp.

Another alan wilson track.......

Dont get me wrong, new tracks are a great thing, but when a bunch of them you drive all look the same, its not as fun. The more events I go to, the more I like summit point.

- Evan - 10-07-2005

nobody seems to have too many complaints about Barber...

Ill agree with you that Dragons ridge does look a little cookie cutter when compared with Beaver, CMP, or Shenandoah.
But its hard to get a feel for a track looking at the track map. VIR certainly doesnt look too inspiring from overhead.
Not sure how the elevation changes are going to be, its pretty flat in that area that they are building it

also keep in mind when you look at the track that its a 3 mile track. so its not as tight as it looks, probably a good amount of fast 3rd gear corners. that corner by the "bike trail" arrow looks devilish. i think that sand trap will end up getting a lot of use!

- Kaan - 10-07-2005

build a mountian or something... I <3 VIR

yeah i had to look at it twice to get a feeling for size. check out that loooong turn by the dynamic driving area....it looks like there's a slight kink mid-corner....that will pinch off some people i'm sure.

- PDenbigh - 10-07-2005

Any idea what the direction of travel is on the track? I can't seen to figure it out by looking at the traps. Another way to tell?

- Mike - 10-07-2005

looks clockwise to me.

judging by the shape of the runoff areas i'd say so, too.

Yep, but with minor modifications to the sandtraps, it could be run in both directions...

there aren't that many people around that area. Compared to other tracks in the region.

- GreenFlag - 10-11-2005

Some changes have been made since that track map was put together. The full course is now planned to be just over 3 miles and the East Course just over 2 miles (similar lengths to VIR).

They plan on opening the track in phases....first phase will be the East Course which should be open by mid-2006. Second phase will be West opening by 2008.

The track will run counter-clockwise.

DC, NoVa, Tidewater, Baltimore, Philly? Seems like a pretty good market to me.
