tool recommendations - christo - 10-06-2005
I need some power tools, ratchets just wont cut it on rusted suspension bolts. Recommend an impact/compressor combo that won't break the bank?
navin uses an electric cordless impact wrench, seems convienient, but is he just a big puss?

I dunno cause I havn't really looked into it myself...but if you decide to go through advance make sure to talk to Rex or I. Maybe others are working there by now...what do I know?
What I do know is that I've got a compressor at my work which I could get you for like 65 bucks. I'll check the specs on it tomorrow (read later today).

A decent electric impact is ~$150, while a cheap air impact is $30 / cheap compressor is under $100 - but you get what you pay for.
A decent compressor will be a couple hundred dollars + hose costs + coupling costs + $5 of air compressor oil 8) . The good thing is that you can run lots of cooooool toooooools off of it interchangeably. Bad thing is that a compressor takes up a lot of space and a while to set up before use (if you don't keep in a personal garage).
An electric impact is not going to be as powerful as a good air one, but it is convenient (plug and play), and mine seems to be holding up well (Craftsman) / is plenty powerful for what I have needed it for.

Over 2 yrs of use, zero problems ever. I think they are cheaper in store.

I love my air tools. I've probably spent about $350 on my setup - big-ass Craftsman compressor w/ some crappy tools, a better hose, and a nice I/R 7-billion ft-lb torque impact gun. Need some impact sockets now though, cause my regular sockets are just crappy enough to flex around bolt heads (and either round the bolts off or crack the sockets)...

Careful with those sockets john - they can shatter.
HF sells some decent impact sockets for cheap.

I got all my impact sockets from either harbor freight or norther tool and didnt pay too much for them.
christo I have an electric impact that I only used once (then i got air) that I will sell you. It spins lugs right off

I've got an electric (plug in) impact by, I'm at work so I'm not positive, Black & Decker (the only thing I can remember about it right now since it's been so long since I've had to use it is that it's black and yellow).
Works great.... the only tool I own that can get the 36mm axle nuts off my Accord (I broke 2 1/2" breaker bars and nearly broke my 3/4").

I have the same impact .RJ has, it works great.. spins axle nuts off easily with a few hits and other misc bolts I'm lazy to get with a regular ratchet...
I'm telling you that lower LCA bolt is not coming out, its seized to the bushing! You have to cut it with a dremel or just replace the LCA and throw your new rear suspension on..

uh...its a tool that looks kind of like a big drill, that you put sockets on the end, and it turns the sockets with a lot of torque....

Heat aint gonna help those honda LCA bolts - the bolt seizes to the inner metal sleeve of the bushing.
