How can this swaybar work? - Jeff - 09-26-2005

I was talkin to Ryan, Adam, Brian, and Keith about swaybars on a TD tonight. This is what is out there as a "rear swaybar" for my FIXED REAR AXEL Daytona.

I can't really see it but as long as it connects to the axel and the body then it should work. Got any better pics?

- Mike - 09-26-2005

i really can't see shit in that pic...

do the endlink and stick axle move in a 1:1 ratio? if not, it is creating torsion, which is the basis of a sway bar.

- Jeff - 09-27-2005

hmm...worth $162?

- white_2kgt - 09-27-2005

Is the front link mounted to the chassis? If so, then yes, that is a sway bar. I'd be conserned with the axel mount 'walking' since its only held in place w/ that one clamp.

This is mine,

The gold is the sway bars, changing the length of the gold bar (by moving the mount points in or out) changes the stiffness.

no
you could probably make one for $50

Less complex version of the same idea. It mounts the same way. I am gonna look into making one and modeling it more after yours. Maybe I can get something cool out of it.

I agree, there is no adjustment and those are some cheap ass clamps.

Make sure you do your research, that is usually what you are paying for when you buy parts from major aftermarket companies. You will need to accurately determine the diameter and wall thickness of the 'bar' and the correct length of the 'arm' to achieve the proper stiffness for what you are trying to accomplish. All that comes into play when making sway bars. I can change out that black bar in my picture for 1 of 6 different bars to go stiffer or softer in addition to the 4 holes in the 'arm'. So I can really have 24 different sway bar combinations.

- Jeff - 09-27-2005

damn....I might just make one like in the picture. Just measure it out and heat a solid bar and bend it? Of is that a thick walled tube that nees to be put in a bender?

- Mike - 09-27-2005

either or.

- Jeff - 09-27-2005

I have a torch...I don't have a bender....question answered

- Evan - 09-27-2005

those are exhaust clamps!
thats pretty damn funny

Not all cars are like Hondas and Miatas. There isn't a big world of performance parts for our cars. Sometimes you gotta make what you want and I think its a fair use...as the axel is shaped like a "D." I guess I see how the thing works now and it shouldn't be hard to fashion one myself. I'm also going to order enough of that same round bar to make a rear shock tower (spring mount) bar to go in the hatch area to help stiffen it up. Having the bling to buy parts, or even have parts available is great. But I think custom stuff, even stuff as homegrown as that, deserves props. Mine will be better though, I am also thinking about making my own panhard bar. All this stuff seems to be heating, bending, drilling, taping and painting round bar. Is there a company that makes end-links and things for people making there own custom suspension partslike the ones on this bar?

Try HRPWorld.com

- Evan - 09-27-2005

you can buy spherical bearings and rod ends from racer parts wholesale

- Jeff - 09-27-2005

 RJ & EVAN I can make a panhard bar for like $40...instead of $130

- Jeff - 09-27-2005

It also appears that instead of buying a $110 Garret SS line kit (water and oil) I can make my own from AN fittings and stainless line for about $60-70
