Ok, we'll start with Julie's car. There haven't been any pictures of it yet, so here's Julie's 05 ZX3 Focus:

I am very tempted to have the VW Fairy visit the Jetta one weekend when they're away. There are some chips out there to boost to 130hp (and like, 220lb-ft) and then there's always all of the cosmetic goodies that can be put on there. 5 Speed (of course) and while it's not a screaming monster, it does get a bajillion miles to the gallon (or supposed to, we picked it up this afternoon) which makes my father happy and it's sporty, which makes my mother happy. We just recently sold our 626, and while the Mazda had leather and some other stuff, and while the Jetta's interior is fighting a losing battle, I like the VeeDub waaaay better.

yeah those TDI's can be stump pullers with the right chips (seems to be the trend with that generation of turbo VAG engines). i think they are solid 50 mpg highway cars IIRC.

WOOT WOOT for the new cars.
I have the distinction of being the first person to ride in the back of the Focus. Nothing quite beats a 2.5L Dakota 4X2. We need to turbo it Rex...I can hook you up with the turbo off the Daytona.

And how would that work with the TBI? Whatever, that's a pipe dream.
I was driving the focus to school today, and I definitely think its one of the neatest engines I've ever had the pleasure of driving. It's very tame down low, practically no noise at idle, even with the windows down. But when you wind it up, it has a simply fantastic sound....but not boosted.
After driving 60hp for so long, I'm freaking amazed by 130.

why'd you sell the 626? I've never heard anything particularly good about them, so I was wondering if it was because of the car, or if it was just time for a change.

Fuel economy. Rex's parents are obsessed with better fuel economy, because his dad's a pastor and they make a very meager amount in comparison to others in this community. Therefore, in order to run any errands the cars need to get at least 40 miles to the gallon.

hah! Maybe in initial quality. But things go downhill fast if you're not gentle with it. It's german, after all. The glovebox practically falls out when you open it, the 'above radio' cupholder (great idea, Franz!) is completely busted (not that I really mind) the rear ashtray/coinholder/thing's doors doesn't really work.
The main reason for ditching the 626 was indeed fuel economy. The interior was good, not great. It had a medium quality leather and fake wood trim, and oscillating AC vents. We had a 4 banger, which we figured would get decent fuel economy. It didn't. 25 miles to the gallon was the average, and we never got more than 30. And our 3.8L Olds Van got like, 22...so 25 for a little 2.0 4 Cyl, in my father's mind, was unacceptable. And I see where he's coming from. My family does alot of running, (Hence the Metros) and we really needed something that could hold 5 people, was comfortable, and got at least 35 miles to the gallon. That didn't leave many options. Basically it came down to TDI Jetta/Passat (We tried to buy one on CL...it sold in 15 minutes) or a Prius, which was not only completely out of our price range but my father also doesn't really like hybrids. The idea of a future maintenance item that has no current price tag didn't thrill him. (Battery packs)
And mike, I'd love to drive the S2K, but my point was that after driving the 1 Liter Wonder for so long, a Focus feels like a Ferrari, and the 2.0 Duratec sounds way better than any car we own...except maybe the 6.2L Diesel full size GMC...with straight pipes. It sounds like Armageddon. My manliness weeps at the thought of having to sell that monstrosity.

LOL!!! ThatÔÇÖs the one thing Car and Driver hates about them. They had to put like 5 shiftknobs on their year test of the new beetle when it came out because the knob kept falling apart. They complain all the time (in their long time tests) about VW interior things being POS. But other then that, they seem to love them. I likes me a Jetta III whenever I get a chance to drive one :thumbup:

no, an ap1. the ap2 has a less peaky motor so it wouldn't give him the full effect of tame at idle and insane at high rpms.

I drove the s2000 around for a little bit, its a goddamn go-cart. However, its as slow as a go-kart for such an expensive little car. I lived 10 minutes outside of dc and it was ridiculous to drive around town
