Anyone want to ride? - DarkStaRC - 09-10-2005

Hey,

I'm new to the forum and the club. I graduated from JMU recently and am still living in the area. I ride a couple nights a week and at least once most weekends/some Mondays. If anyone's interested in going out for relatively long rides or shorter evening rides with a variety of roads (avoiding highway burns), then post up with some contact information.

If there's interest, I'll be happy to lead some rides, but I'll be pretty strict about group rules for the purpose of safety.

If no one's up, no harm done, look for me out on the road. I'm on a 2000 RC51.

I would not suggest riding with someone on a RC51 because it just eventually becomes a contest of how fast one can enter a corner, especially if it is just 2 people, one on a very capable bike, and one on a noticeably less capable bike. Or maybe it is just because I had my wreck when riding with someone on a 2005 Triumph Daytona 750. :roll:

I understand the skepticism, but I'm not looking to go out with someone who's new to riding so that I can have them trail me into a corner too hot for their abilities or bike. If I'm going to lead a ride, regardless of how many people show up, I'd tailor it to the experience of the people who are there. In my opinion, this is the responsibility of any ride leader. Not all rides degenerate into competition.

True. But when you first ride with someone else you are trying to show you are a skilled rider, and you gain confidence throughout the ride and do subtle things that you would not have done at the beginning of the ride. We were on our way back and I messed up on one corner and I was done. Ride with someone more skilled on a more powerful bike and you will see what I am talking about.

If you can't handle what's infront of you then go at the pace you can handle. Like RJ said, no one forces you to drive/ride faster than you should be, that's your decision to do so.

i'll be up for a ride, but i will definitely be going at a pace i can handle. If not, well i'll be taking a little trip in a well-lit wagon.

I went on a ride with a friend in an 1100cc bike on the "mountain" roads of sterling/middleburg and it was a nice ride. He had a lot more experience than i did however, not to mention a much more capable bike.

You cannot blame another rider for you pushing over what your limits are.

I have done many a dumb thing in a car, and fortunately only had one accident (on track), and while there were many factors that contributed to the crash, at the end of the day I was the nut behind the wheel making the decisions.

I'm with Mike. Rob, If those are your views, never enter an HPDE, and for that sake, don't walk behind someone older than you that's been walking longer that is wearing better shoes.

Riding with people better than me has been great. Of course, I'm comfortable enough with myself that I don't push harder than I can handle. But, riding with better riders teaches me capabilities, body positioning, lines, and more. So don't jack this guys thread with this junk. Start your own or something, he just wants to ride.

On that note, I'd love to go riding sometime. Perhaps this coming weekend? My favorite route thus far is 33w-220-250-42. Done it?

I have indeed done the 33-220-250-42 route and if you've never remained on 220 for a couple of hours, you're missing out on a nice little reward.

I am in the Harrisonburg area for the time being and would be happy to ride with some of you all this coming weekend.

Just in case anyone's worried, while I'm a motorcyclist first, I'm also interested in autocrossing my car and doing some HPDE's with you all.

Haha no need to explain. We all share the same passion for the open road. Some of us are actually going to opposite direction as you, HPDE's and autocrossing -> bike track days and bike racing.

I haven't done much traveling around Harrisonburg/WV thus far, so when I do get my bike (hopefully this week) I'm definitely going to check that out.
