n00b - NaptownE36 - 09-05-2005 Hey everyone, just thought I'd stop in. I just got a '98 M3 and I'm looking forward to getting it track ready over the next month or two. Props to Chad for taking me all the way up to the projects in Jersey City to help my dream become a reality! I read all the suggested must-do's (ie rear control arm bushings, cooling system, tranny mount). Any other suggestions? I'm psyched to finally own a car I can be proud of! - Feersty - 09-05-2005 Welcome, what is your story? - WRXtranceformed - 09-05-2005 Welcome =D A few things were mentioned in Chad's thread. I suggested a short shifter and some nice aftermarket shifter bushings if it's feeling a bit sloppy or rubbery when you shift. How are the tires on your new ride? A good set of rubber is a must-have for spirited summer driving / track driving as well as another all-season or devoted snow set for the wintertime. That's in my opinion anyway ^_^ - Dave - 09-05-2005 my recommendation would be to do all the preventative maintenance that that car requires, then hit the track. You'll be a much faster driver spending your money on track time rather than mods. That car is plenty capable in stock form and may end up being too much to handle if you start modding it before you head out there. BTW, welcome to the club and congrats on an awesome purchase. - .RJ - 09-05-2005 Trailing arm bushings, not control arm bushings ![]() Also - keep a very close eye on the subframe and suspension pickup points. Turner motorsport sells reinforcement plates for these, but you will need to drop the subframe and weld them in. I never had any problems with my E36, but I only tracked it 3 times on crappy street tires (Yok ES100's). Chan says the Bimmerworld guys didnt have any issues either, but they probably just crashed their cars before they had a chance to break anything back there
- Myuki - 09-05-2005 welcome - NaptownE36 - 09-05-2005 Feersty Wrote:Welcome, what is your story? Well, I'm still pretty new to the racing scene. I've done some autox with SCCA and I went to VIR last year to work as a pit monkey for Chad and Peter. This is really my first race worthy car... one of those deals where I've always wanted to get into racing, but never had the right opportunity. When this one came around, I thought I'd jump on it. Hopefully I'll get to meet up with some of you at the next NASA event... depends on how fast I can get this work done. In the meantime I hope you guys don't mind me poking my head in once in a while for some timely advice as I'm working on the car? I graduated Info. Systems from Maryland in '01 and I work with Chad now, which is how I found out about Madison Motorsports. Hope to see you all around. John - .RJ - 09-05-2005 Careful with it on track Its a very fast, easy to drive and forgiving chassis - up to about 8/10ths. Past that it will bite you pretty hard.Good luck
