New Orleans bout to get slammed. - Feersty - 08-28-2005

Hurricane Katrina a category 5 is about to hit Louisiana with winds up to 160 mph. God save the people living there.... Sad

the fact that it's also technically below sea level doesn't really have a good effect either.....i really feel bad for the people living there.... Sad

i didn't know it was a category 5..... Confusedhock:

mandatory evacuation, that's pretty serious stuff....

kinda crazy to think this hurricane was just a minor tropical storm at first, then a cat. 3, then overnight a cat. 5! apparently its the 4th lowest pressure ever recorded in the US Confusedhock:

phew... better them than me... i just got back from jacksonville, where this hell of a storm was supposed to hit in the initial estimates. new orleans is screwed if this hits hard. not only will it flood like something bad, but a lot of the historical building will be ripped apart. from what i've heard they will not rebuild if this does take the city out. :o

nooooo!! i still want to go to mardi gras!

- Sijray21 - 08-28-2005

they were also talking about heavy concern for the Super Dome in NO, most of the people are staying there in refuge and they say it's never been predicted to withstand category 5 hurricane winds......

i really hope the surge and winds will be less than predicted, kinda scary... Confusedhock:

Sounds like it's time for a Hurricane Party as any proper NO'er would do.

No, but really, hopefully this won't hit too hard. It's always better to do something like evacuate now and be overly cautious than be there if it becomes the worst of predictions. A dead French Quarter wouldn't kill the Mardi Gras spirit, anyways... it's not about the buildings Smile

Well as much as i'd like for a nice tropical storm to wash all the piss, shit and vomit out of the streets of that shithole, a big hurricane is going to put a serious hurting on those old buildings.

yea, i saw it hit 904 mb, i've never seen it below like 950. However bad it gets, it is still a beautiful storm, very defined eye, and even rotation. I wish the best to all people in it's path.

in a twisted way (no pun intended) yes, it's a once or twice in a lifetime type of natural powerhouse. its amazing something so organized and purposeful can just come out of nowhere like that.

i remember 2 years ago when the hurricane rolled through JMU, it was so surreal and creepy to look up at dusk and the clouds looked like they were 30 feet off the ground and going 100 mph. amazing but forboding.

ha, i remember that, we had two lakes in sunchase instead of one! not to mention the guy floating on the floating penis-raft with his other drunk buddy. The hurricane-40oz party kicked ass though!

Watching the storm all morning....it's supposed to be a tropical storm when it passes through Kentucky..... Confusedhock:

I'd post pictures of our hurricane mudwrestling part if I wasn't at work :-)

Holy shit

- JohnC - 08-29-2005

One whole side of my family lives in the Baton Rouge area - hopefully they'll stay safe.

- BLINGMW - 08-29-2005

sounds like they're just getting a good hard scrubbing, not quite the total destruction that was predicted.
