"i've got mail!" - lillitnn92 - 08-27-2005

i got this yesterday in our mail box

Quote:Dear inconsiderate neighbor,

The community of Avalon Woods would like to take this time and thank you for this opportunity to express our thanks for the obnoxious sounds from your loud truck. We appreciate knowing every time you enter and exit the development (at least we can get our children out of the way!!) Why do you insist on making the truck cackle at 7:30am in the morning or at night when we as parents are trying to put our children to bed?? We all hope that you have good auto insurance for the simple reason you insist on driving at break neck speed thru our neighborhood. We are not sure if you realize that you are not the only person with a fast paced schedule however please slow down and keep the truck quiet in our neighborhood!! There is no need for the noise or the speed. Children ride their bikes on the same street you insist on driving recklessly on. I’m not sure if you have notice the slow down signs posted at the entrance of Avalon Woods (how could you at that speed) but they are there for a reason. We all live in close quarters and we all must respect each other. (We all feel sorry that you did not get the attention you needed as a child it is not our place to give it to you as an adult.)
We have sent a letter to the Harrisonburg Police Department so that they will start monitoring the streets of Avalon Woods. If the problem continues we are also going to start calling in noise complaints. Sorry for the inconvenience however enough is enough.

Thank you,
Afraid to Cross the Road.

now obviously i can't say anything about the "cackle" even though it's not like i roll through there at 5000RPM in first gear. i'm in first gear yes, but it's not that loud and if i tried going into second at that speed the truck would buck and kick itself all over the place. the signs say 5mph and if you can find one car that obeys that posted speed limit, i'll give you $1000. at the most (like 98% of the cars and trucks going in and out of that place) i do about 10-12MPH. i watched about a dozen people so far driving past our place on the corner doing at the least, 20MPH!!! and somehow i've become the target. about the sound, there is a WRX and a few other cars that stroll through here with loud mufflers, but again, i've been singled out here.

what would you do? i've typed up a letter myself and now i've got to go put it in each mail box because this *****fied person doen't have the balls to reveal who they are. now i've been to Home Owner's Assc. meetings and i know the president, so i still need to find out if he knows anything about this. here's my letter that i still haven't decided if it's worth it to send out....

Quote:To the author of the anonymous letter left for unit 2345……

I find it very disconcerting in these times that people cannot work out problems like mature adults. In addition, your letter made personal attacks and judgments about my character and the quality of parenting I was given as a child. How does one make such assumptions when one does not know the person in question? In fact, you will find that I can be a very reasonable and likeable person. I find your facts to be way off based and untrue and would like to settle this situation before it escalates into something that it shouldn’t. We can discuss this further in the presence of our Home Owner’s Association President any time you wish to settle this matter. You can call Brian Woods at ____________ to schedule a day to talk this through.

Jeremy Thompson

P.S.
To those not involved.

I’m sorry to have dragged you into this situation and to have wasted your time reading this.

Sounds like a bored housewife who hasn't gotten laid in a while. Try this:

Do donuts through each of your neighbors' front yards, then see who complains the most. Then you'll know who sent the letter, and then you can pour gas on the remainder of their lawn in a big "MM" symbol and light the fucker on fire!

- Ryan T - 08-27-2005

Sounds like a good reason to leave it in first or second gear when driving through the neighborhood and making it as loud as possible without breaking the speed limit.

- Sijray21 - 08-27-2005

that sucks man. They always like to pick on a certain person. Best thing to probably do is just keep being courteous and not give them a reason to bitch. Asking to talk about it in person is definitely a better approach to the situation though.

- Myuki - 08-27-2005

i think the anonymous thing is kind of an asshole-ish way to tell him though.

My bike doesn't have a muffler at all... want me to come visit?

screw a bike, not enough pistons Smile.

next time I'm in the burg I can swing by...a few times Smile

- PDenbigh - 08-27-2005

After the next scenic drive, we'll all parade through the neighborhood with stereo's pumping and at 6000 rpm.

Ok, or kill them with kindness and just behave. Gosh, being good sucks.

- NTIman - 08-27-2005

I agree. If anyone had problems with their parents, maybe it was whoever wrote the note. Apparently their parents never taught them to be adults, because a real person would have confronted you as one. As for the kids, I can understand being worried about them, but why is a kid riding a bike on the street if it is so dangerous for them. They have parks and stuff for that. If it is so damn important that you slow down, they could have left a name and number so you can contact them to work it out, apologize, etc, but I guess they are too much or a wussy to do just that.
Your parent's parenting skills should have have come into question over the way you drive, and if they spent more time giving their kids attention, they should be watching them, because of the "imminent" danger.

most people are pussy's at heart. I'm out in St Louis this weekend and I took christina to Sams to pickup some food in her parents mini van. ON the way back to their house there is a narrow road w/ a 90* turn around a tree, no lines on the road mind you, speed limit is 25, around the turn it is 15. I was taking it easy, we had a cake in the car and all, plus there was this kid mowing the lawn. well coming around the turn from the other direction was a Pickup truck, going about 50 up the hill into the turn. I motioned for him to SLOW DOWN and mouthed it at him. He proceded to turn around and follow us back into my inlaws subdivision, well to the entrance anyway. Christina told me he had turned around, so I stopped and waited. Sure enough he pulls up and rolls his window down and starts yelling FUCK YOU THIS, FUCK YOU THAT at me, I roll my window down, yell back and inform him there are kids around and he should watch his mouth and slow down. That just caused him to tell me where I could go and what else I could fuck, at this point I turned the van around and headed right for him, he speed off, I follow, not fast mind you, we are in a neighborhood. He sees I'm not speeding so he slows down. I catch up, he flips us off and stops in the road, I stop in the road and go to get out, he floors it and peels away, What a pussy.

funny you should say that because that is the first of the "non-mature" things i thought about doing.

and i love how important they make it about their child's safety. just yesterday when my girlfriend came home, she said there was about 3-4 of the boys with their bikes, laying in the middle of the road. and today i was watching as a couple tried to pull out of their parking space and had to hit the brakes because the kids on the bikes came flying off the hill and around the turn without looking. AND THEY ARE WORRIED ABOUT ME!!! seems like in order to make the children safe, they need to teach them about being safe first!

my natural instinct with all of this is to start some stuff they don't want started, but i am going to try and be better about this. i am not such a moron that i purposely drive fast around children. they must think i am one stupid bastard. i've lost my license once due to my irresponsibility, and i swore that i would never let that happen again. i felt like a common white trash trailer park redneck when that happened and it was not something i wanted to feel again EVER.

Chad has me beat... i'm sure of that... but i'll bring the cannon through the hood...

- Feersty - 08-27-2005

I like the scenic drive idea, we should bring a shitton of cars and just drive around the neighborhood like a parade drive I am sure it would be hilarious! Smile

- Dave - 08-27-2005

my .02 psi:
Talk to your president bud and find out if he has heard anything. If he hasn't, he should also have enough clout to be able to contact the police and find out exactly who is complaining.
Leave a note on the mailbox in a plastic bag addressed "To Asshole" and explain to him that you are more than happy to meet him in person in a mediated environment so that you can work out your differences like real human beings as opposed to redneck scum.
Contact the police. Don't be afraid of them, they are typically very reasonable and will listen to your side just as easily as they will listen to thiers. Present yourself in the appropriate manner and you may even subconciously convince them that this other person is almost a waste of thier time.
Finally, don't change anything. If you drive through the neighborhood like a bat out of hell, you might want to tone it down a bit; just drive at a reasonable speed. Otherwise, I don't see any reason to change and I think the above tactics will cut to the chase quick enough to resolve it without any problems.

- lillitnn92 - 08-27-2005

yeah, i'm not doing anything different than i was before this showed up in our box. i leave the same and arrive the same. i do plan on talking to our president and asking if he has been approached about this from anyone. i'll wait and see what he has to say on this before i take my next step. if they want to get the police involved it's fine with me, they won't be issuing any tickets in my direction because i am not doing anything wrong IMO.

Kaan Wrote:Chad has me beat... i'm sure of that...

Yeah, just put Kaan in the back of your truck with a Bullhorn and drive around in the neighborhood.

- lillitnn92 - 08-28-2005

was thinking...

"....... or at night when we as parents are trying to put our children to bed?"

funny, it is very rare for me to be away from the house past 7pm any day of the week, so unless they are putting their kids to bed then, it isn't me. and speaking of that. just about 30 minutes ago while i was watching the Denver/Colts game. a truck that is in this area drove by with a much louder exhaust than mine. hmmmmm, could it be that they have the wrong person from the get go?

- ScottyB - 08-28-2005

damn Jeremy, sounds like you caught the unfortunate attention of either some dipshit know-it-all housewife or some disgruntled antisocial douchebag. there's no way a bunch of people got together to write that stupid letter. i have a feeling someone is just looking to throw their weight around especially with dumbfounding comments about putting children in bed (!?), being raised poorly (wtf) and your exhaust "cackle"....i mean, freakin A, its harrisonburg, every truck has straight pipes and i never see anyone complain about the ear-bleedingly loud harley's that roll around. the person who wrote that letter is a coward.

as Dave said....talk to your pres. buddy in the association, and see if you can figure out who it is. otherwise, don't change anything you do and see if the complaints continue. i wouldn't send out your letter quite yet.

if i was near you i'd be happy to light fireworks off the back of your truck with a strobe light at 5 am as you go through your neighborhood in first at 6k rpm

- .RJ - 08-28-2005

Beat her with a spiked baseball bat.

- Jeff - 08-28-2005

I could bring the 85 C-30 Chevy with the 454 through sometime Smile Pipes end behind the cab! If you get the RPMs up high enough before you shift to 3rd (haha! there is >10mph) she makes a thunderous backfire. I've had many good times with that old truck...scaring children, and the elderly.

Anyways. I agree with everyone who says it is some old bat with sand in the vagina. She prolly bitched and bitched and bitched to her "I'm better then these people" husband about you and he got pissed of and wrote a letter based on her accounts. Also, 98% of the time things that happen involving children are caused by the kid doing something stupid; and everyone else is expected to look out for them. They prolly' never told their kids to watch out in the road, "oh little Billy, don't worry, the cars will always stop for you." I think you need to do some investigating before you make any moves. I don't even believe someone who would write something as poor as that would even call the police. Its most likely all scare tactics. I had/have a similar problem with our "community council." They were getting complaints about fast driving...no one IDed a car... and my parents were asked to "remind me" to slow down a bit through the area...then the speed signs went up. I still take that corner at 35...and I always will. ItÔÇÖs almost like at the park, the sign says 15, but who actually goes 15? Even though it is state law for that speed the Woodstock police have been instructed by the courts to enforce a 25 through that stretch...har.

A final thought...
Why don't you wait and see if you get another...then phone in your own call to the police...harassment.
