Tue 8/23: Outage - JackoliciousLegs - 08-23-2005

Sorry about the outage. I know you all were concerned with the level of service that Nexpoint was providing us. I brought our concerns to Nexpoint and they are planning to migrate our site to a more stable, newer, and faster server on Thursday. Keep in mind that the site will be down again if this happens so no bitching about it going down again... lol.
Cheers!

Why dont we just step up to regular web hosting and pay for the service and a reliable server?

- bluhayz - 08-24-2005

I believe most services experience the same issues that this site is currently dealing with. The good thing to do would just be to tell Jack when it's not working, and the guys would get it back up for you real quick like. The site should be moved over sometime thursday eveningish when it slows down.

- Sijray21 - 08-24-2005

schedules outings are fine with me, i just hate finding out until i try to log in for 4 hours, lol

...referring back to the bored at work thread

no, most services are not down as much as this site is.

Wrong.

- JackoliciousLegs - 08-24-2005

Yes, you guys are right. Most services do not go down so frequently. We are on an OLD... OOOOOLD server (read: free). Just relax for a bit. If one of you other alums wants to take over paying for and maintaining the site entirely, we can work it out. Otherwise, just be patient, and give this new server a try.

Yes, I hate seeing the MM forum down.
Yes, I want reliable hosting.
but YES, I want cheap shit for our members.
I want more karting for members. I want cheaper tshirts, more stickers, sweatshirts, more discounted events.

We could have enough $$ donated by COB today to keep the hosting up for the next 2 years.

What about clean air and world peace?

that goes without saying.

COB - College of business?

- .RJ - 08-24-2005

Close of Business.

I thought you had a job?

Are you retarded today?

The whole site thing is not about control and it is not about "people bitching". It is about how well the site serves the club. This last outage was the last straw in my mind and I was ready to call for an end for us getting service from Nexpoint. But if the situation is genuinely going to be resolved then great.

I don't understand this, you would not want to maintain the site if we decided to switch services?

when he was in CS he didn't know the meaning. usually those people were up all night writing code

Except that "COB" really means by 9am the next morning Big Grin

- BLINGMW - 08-24-2005

I think we should stick with the free solution as long as we can, especially if Jacko says it might get better. It really isn't down THAT much, and it's not like this is mission critical shit here, just a bunch of fools yapping. Tongue

- Mike - 08-24-2005

it was slightly mission critical this past weekend when the address to the chili cookoff was unreachable.

but i'm with you, free is better and lets stick with it.

I hope it will be resolved. If not, we will talk about suitable alternatives.
G.Irish Wrote:I don't understand this, you would not want to maintain the site if we decided to switch services?
I wouldn't want to be held responsible for outages as I have been in the past. Again, I think we should stick with this as long as we can, and give them another chance. After all, they have given us free hosting for quite a while now. We owe them to at least switch servers
