Put down that controller from time to time, get up from that computer chair every now and then.

article Wrote:SEOUL, South Korea (AP) - A 28-year-old South Korean man died of exhaustion in an Internet cafe after playing computer games non-stop for 49 hours, South Korean police said Wednesday.

Lee, a resident in the southern city of Taegu who was identified only by his last name, collapsed Friday after having eaten minimally and not sleeping, refusing to leave his keyboard while he played the battle simulation game Starcraft.

Lee was quickly moved to a hospital but died after a few hours, due to what doctors are presuming was a heart attack, police said.

Lee had been fired from his job last month because he kept missing work to play computer games, police said.

Computer games are enormously popular in South Korea, home to professional gamers who earn big money through sponsorships and television stations devoted to broadcasting matches.

"Lee, who was identified only by his last name"... well, that only narrows it down to 40% of the country then... Wink

People still play Starcraft? They must be a little behind in south Asia.

I thought at first he would be playing Everquest. I would have believed it hah. I know I put in at least a few 14-20 hour non-stop sessions on that game.

On second thought, how the fuck do you die from exhaustion from sitting on your ass in front of a computer? Was he not eating/drinking or something? Also, I don't know of too many internet cafes that are open 24 hours a day. Things must be real different out there =p

Takes hardcore gaming to a new level. Thought that game died out few years ago.

I also think it was World of Warcraft, not Starcraft. I read that article from several sources, i thought it was hilarious. I can't believe someone would do that. He probably died of starvation and didn't realize it.

yea, starcraft is a easy escape (lol) from other games. like WoW. and Everquest, and the ever dying FFXI

- Mike - 08-12-2005

starcraft is HUGE in asia. they hold events there that are as big as our superbowl, and the contestants probably earn nearly as much. video gaming really is the national past-time in korea.
