Oh noZ!!! 45 PSI!!!! T3h MPr3zA H4XED!!! - 83Rabbit - 07-25-2005

yea, impreza took the 100 mile trip back up to nova with its new brake caliper just great. Got to target and hit a stoplight and it was missfiring like crazy, no power. Took it home, tested 1 and 2 and were too sad to test the others

1: 45PSI
2: 90PSI

I take it theyre supposed to be between 135 and 150...... gay.

So now i need a new motor, and the cars stuck up in nova. And nowhere has 2.5 motors to do a MY98 ej25 swap since thats the most straightforward.

Someone has a Ej20T with 2k miles on it.... but that swaps out of my budget and knowledge.... i need a car and im fux0red lol

had to vent.

Always check the car out before you buy it......

I've been victim to this one too. Dont ever take anyone's word for anything.

Sorry to hear man, your luck will come arround.

I spent a day checking it out and all seemed well. Its never given me any problems just lacked massive amounts of power. Probably due to low compression. Im guessing it just finally gave way and it sounds to me like i have a cracked head or head gasket, the car runs, but i can hear a hissing sound under throttle comming from the cyl with 45psi.

Looks like Ill be investing in an ej25 sooner than I thought. It just sucks, sucks big time, this coudnt have come at a worse time in my life.

But the way I see it, 600-1k for a low mileage full 2.5 motor, 1100 for the car. Im left with a pseudo 2.5rs sedan for under 2500 lol. See life aint all that bad.

- 83Rabbit - 07-25-2005

anyone got a garage or backyard they want to lend for a weekend to do the swap? 8)

- Feersty - 07-25-2005

$100 a day sure.

- Evan - 07-25-2005

there is a parts yard in PA that specializes in subaru parts. they always have EJ25s in stock.
and no, I dont remember the name, but searching around on nasioc mid-a forum should get you the info

- 83Rabbit - 07-25-2005

So heres where I am....

Do I
1. swap in a stock EJ18 for 200-800?
2. swap in an EJ22 for 300-900?
3. swap in an EJ25 for 700-1000?
4. swap in an EJ22T for 700-1000?

Theres the list from easiest to hardest, the power potentials and gains go right up in the same order, and price does as well.

The only variable is that EJ25s are going to be the most available motor (aside from the EJ18) from all the 2.5rs' who are swapping WRX motors ETC into their cars. And since the EJ25 is newer, they will most likely have less miles. Ive tracked down a few EJ22T's but theyve been up around90-110k miles... Ill pass on that. The comparible 30-60k mile EJ25s Ive scouted were to be had for the same or less $.

And also the EJ25 and EJ18 wont require exhaust modding (to run, of course exhaust will benefit it). The EJ22T requires a new exhaust setup, which means more $... and time.

did you do a compression test before you bought it? Heck, I did one on a motor that wasn't even IN a car. I had to bolt a starter up and bring my own battery to test it.

- 83Rabbit - 07-26-2005

- JackoliciousLegs - 07-27-2005

Ok. Let me know when you're doing it. I'll take away your old motor.

- BLINGMW - 07-27-2005

is it worth at least throwing a headgasket at it first?

(oh, and Chad, that's pretty hardcore  )

- 83Rabbit - 08-02-2005

$835 is getting me
-a complete 59k Mile EJ25 with compression numbers out of a running 2.5
-spare parts from the 2.5 I dont need that I can sell
-WRX calipers, Hawk Pads, carriers, and rotors

Smile w00t Now I just have to figure out where I can do the swap.
