WTB: Your slightly out of date video card - BLINGMW - 07-19-2005

before I goto ebay, anyone have a somewhat recent, like Geforce 4, ATI whatever or better video card that they're thinking of getting rid of? The latest version of LFS is killing my compy, which currently has a 32meg Geforce 2 card. Looking to spend less than $50.

my advice would to get one slightly beter than those two, not top of the line really. That way it can last you a longer than getting those cards used, and will be more up to date when new stuff comes out. but if you're looking for something decent to upgrade to, then by all means, get one of those. They work great, and play most stuff real well.

and yeah, I understand I could spend more, but then I kind of feel like It'll go to waste when backed up by my 1.1ghz proc

Just build a new PC, preferably somthing based on an Athlon64/FX chip :wink: (as I look on Newegg to see the prices of Nforce4 MBs and dual core chips :twisted: )

yes yes yes that's all very exciting, but like I said, I'm looking to spend less than $50. I think I'll be able to play what I want just fine then. But thanks for pointing out the refurb section at newegg, I might end up ordering there

that's what I'm running. It works well for a lot of games. Half-Life 2 and Doom3 run with no problems at all. So, I bet GTR would do fine. Enjoy!

ok good, I was afraid I'd get responses like "OH NO NOT THAT ONE!" :lol: The 5200 ultra and 5600 and up were like $70+, so I settled on this one

well that was a waste of $. I don't even think I gained one FPS. :? It looks a little better, and I can turn on more graphics without quite as much of a hit, but I'm still going below 20 FPS on many sections of the track with everything as low as it'll go. Which is quite playable, but the problem before was that I couldn't turn my rear view mirror on without cutting my framerate almost in half, and that's still true. Guess it was the proc all along. :roll:
