Toyota to leave IRL, so will Honda... - G.Irish - 06-30-2005 Toyota announced earlier this week that they'll be leaving IRL after 2006. No small surprise since Toyota ultimately has its sights on NASCAR. That and the fact that Toyota probably doesn't feel its getting its money's worth in marketing appeal from the IRL which has not been able to improve much on its dismal ratings (save for Danicamania). http://www.pitpass.com/fes_php/pitpass_ ... t_id=24973 Sooo, just like that Honda is going to leave too since they are not in racing to compete with themself. But instead of going to NASCAR which would not really be the technical challenge they'd be looking for, Honda is going to American Le Mans I was hoping Honda would have gone there after they left CART but winning the Indy 500 was a worthy reason to go to IRL for awhile. Now that they've won it twice and Toyota and Chevy are bowing out now its time to go after the new Porsche and Mazda programs...http://speedtv.com/commentary/17918/ The big loser? Tony George. That asshole is getting just what he deserved, a bucket of Kentucky Fried Crow. When Toyota and Honda first got into IRL him and his cronies were proclaiming victory and talked about how IRL is sooo much better[than CART] because of its lower cost, closer racing, yadda yadda yada. I think IRL was indeed making progress especially with their addition of road courses but this development pretty much leaves 'em dead in the water. Maybe this could be the blow that finally brings IRL and CART back together. - NTIman - 06-30-2005 From what I've heard, Honda does have its sights on NASCAR as well, and will porbbaly have an entry by 2010. We'll know for sure if they are going to enter after Toyota gets into cup and starts beating the crap out of everyone else. - Rex4life - 06-30-2005 i can't wait to see what driver has balls enough to be the black sheep of the nascar community and be shunned by all fans for taking a honda or toyota car - JohnC - 06-30-2005 Rex4life Wrote:i can't wait to see what driver has balls enough to be the black sheep of the nascar community and be shunned by all fans for taking a honda or toyota car I'm waiting by my phone. - bassmangrammy - 06-30-2005 American Le Mans = :!: - Evan - 06-30-2005 LMP2 is going to be a lot of fun to watch ![]() Sportscars are better than openwheel anyway! - NTIman - 06-30-2005 As long as there is a sponsership, there will be a NASCAR driver happy to take a seat in a toyota. I really don't think they will be shunned. I am a huge NASCAR fan for some reason, and i can only welcome any company that would enter into competition. Unfortunatly for Ford and Chevy, Dodge and Toyota have more up to date an better designed engines. Dodge has the strongest block of any of them. Toyotas original cylinder head was turned down by NASCAR for being "too good". Thats awesome. - Myuki - 07-01-2005 Rex4life Wrote:i can't wait to see what driver has balls enough to be the black sheep of the nascar community and be shunned by all fans for taking a honda or toyota carwell, at least one team will want the new make. I'm just curious to how they're gonna design it. - Rex4life - 07-01-2005 NTIman Wrote:As long as there is a sponsership, there will be a NASCAR driver happy to take a seat in a toyota. Like all the other cars, the aero on the car is all the same with the exception of the nose, and hood, which are provided by the manufacturer. The engine is have basically taken all the good points from the other engines and combined them. I'm sure all of the Toyota truck teams will enter into Nextel Cup competition. - Myuki - 07-01-2005 NTIman Wrote:The prototype for Toyota's entry into NASCAR is the Camry Solara.
