So, you still have A/C on that 'Race Car'??? - white_2kgt - 06-09-2005 Well get up off your candy ass and get it off of there! Oh boohoo, VIR, Summit Point and Road Atlanta are to hot in the summer to ditch A/C. Please, enter the 'Cool Shirt'. Ever since the engine swap (<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.2kgt.com/item.php?itemid=116">http://www.2kgt.com/item.php?itemid=116</a><!-- m -->), I've not had A/C. I did an A/C delete and recently when working on my oil cooler and power steering cooler I removed every last bit of the A/C unit, so it's not going back in. Last weekend I lost about 15lbs in sweat (i needed to loose it probably) on my way back home from my dad's place, we took 501 to 81 (which BTW is a freeking blast to drive as long as you don't get stuck behind some old dike in a beat ass jeep). So as soon as I got to work Monday AM I ordered the Cool Shirt from Apex Performance, it was at my door Wed Night. Install is pretty easy. Just needs 12v power, supply your own switch and you need to mount it. They provided a mounting plate for a fee, I was on a time crunch so I bit it and just bought it, I'm sure something similar can be fabbed for less than $10. It also came with straps, which is nice. I hooked it up tonight in the garage, it's NICEEEE, I can't wait to try it out this weekend! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() For some more pics, <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.2kgt.com/item.php?itemid=127">http://www.2kgt.com/item.php?itemid=127</a><!-- m --> ahhhhh, --chad - BLINGMW - 06-09-2005 real men don't need either of those  - white_2kgt - 06-09-2005 BLINGMW Wrote:real men don't need either of those  but Fat Men do! --chad - ViPER1313 - 06-09-2005 white_2kgt Wrote:Suck it up. Im too poor to afford a coolshirt ![]() - JohnC - 06-10-2005 My "racecar" has the best A/C out of all our cars. It definitely stays in. - Mike - 06-10-2005 <--- has never had a/c in any of his cars. but soon i will bitches! - .RJ - 06-10-2005 I'll beleive it when I see it - Mike - 06-10-2005 .RJ Wrote:I'll beleive it when I see it me too - BLINGMW - 06-10-2005 I think the only times I've had accidents were in the 2 cars I owned with working A/C in them. Go figure. (The A/C in the E36 325 didn't work very well, so I didn't crash it) - Mike - 06-10-2005 I think you raise a good point. When I'm in a car with A/C it is almost like being in a living room, I'm noticeably more relaxed andlikely to make a mistake. With no A/C, the windows down, and my back stuck to the seat I am more alert and connected. Very interesting. - ViPER1313 - 06-10-2005 Evan Wrote:ViPER1313 Wrote:Suck it up. Explain to me how a racetrack would be worse than rush hour traffic? - Evan - 06-10-2005 ViPER1313 Wrote:Explain to me how a racetrack would be worse than rush hour traffic?Lots of reasons. -You have to wear longsleeves and pants, and if racing: 3 layers of nomex (think: wool) with gloves -you are wearing a helmet which insulates all airflow from your head (this is probably the #1 heater) -you spend more time in the car -you have more physical exertion making you hotter -the engine and trans get hotter, passing that heat to the cabin - if you have a gutted car, thats even worse having commuted on 495 for an hour and a half each way in the same car that I track, I can tell you from experience that you get much hotter on track. My laptimer gives an air temp reading. Back on memorial day when it was in the upper 70s, low 80s, it read 97 in-car. anyway, I dont really care about starting a dick slapping contest on which is hotter. Suffice to say that no A/C is hot no matter where you drive. - .RJ - 06-10-2005 Also the track temp at summit in july/august is historically well over 100 deg - and it will generally hit 120 if its just one of those nasty hot muggy days. Add to that if you are instructing, and you're in an out of the car all day long, up to 5 hours worth between both seats. RJ - keeping the a/c on his integra - white_2kgt - 06-10-2005 ViPER1313 Wrote:Evan Wrote:ViPER1313 Wrote:Suck it up. You should come out and find out for yourself! --chad - Sijray21 - 06-10-2005 i'm actually looking at how to remove the ac compressor belt in the VW...it's linked to more than just the crank, which sucks as soon as if find that belt and it's in my possession, out goes the a/c...too bad the damn thing doesn't work anyway no a/c + black leather interior = death not to mention i need a new radiator and fan for that car....plan's a-brewing.... - .RJ - 06-10-2005 It needs a turbo. - Dave - 06-10-2005 Jay, you have what I've always referred to as a serpentine belt. The trick to removing AC is going to be to find a random belt with the same width and shape/ribs as your current belt, but with a different length. To find that length, look at the routing on the engine and see if there is a way to simply bypass the AC compressor and then measure with a tape measure. The trick is to still have some sort of tensioner on there. Some cars actually use the AC compressor as the tensioner, so if yours does that, you'll get to do some custom shit to make it work. BTW, I know this cuz I wanted to get rid of P/S on the 240, but the same belt that runs that also runs the water pump and is therefore the tensioner for that belt. I got lazy and I still get to turn effortlessly ![]() - G.Irish - 06-10-2005 Well on the heat thing, one year at Hyperfest we had drivers falling out of their cars and stuff from the heat ![]() |
