Motor let go in the GS-T - KPWSerpiente - 06-09-2005

[Image: attachment.php?attachmentid=52419&stc=1]

Number 4 piston kissed number 4 spark plug.

Had done one WOT pull 5 minutes before this happened. Was cruising when I heard some noise...shut it off and pulled over. This was the first plug we pulled and told me exactly why the car wouldn't start and why the motor would not turn by hand.

So I guess it is rebuild time. I have no money...so I'll either get a new job close to where I live so I can walk there and save...or tomorrow I'm a run by the financing options with my parents and how generous they are feeling.

I know a lot of you guys have had an engine let go or become damaged in some other catastrophic way....you can laugh a few times at me now.

*edit: I really need to get this picture of the plug hosted elsewhere.

The original theory is that the rod and crank are not friends anymore...but it is more likely that the massive visible damage to the top of the piston and to the plug were cause by big time detonation. Funny it let go while I was cruising.

Sad

And boost claims yet another victim.....

- BLINGMW - 06-09-2005

damn! Pic's not working for me, but I can imagine. Sorry dude. Sad

- ScottyB - 06-09-2005

sorry to hear about that T. talk to Rex, see if he can't find you a metro to drive around for a while.

can you tell if there was any scarring on the cylinder wall, or was it only the piston top and plug that took the beating?

- Mike - 06-09-2005

bummer. gsx drivetrain time? Wink send the pic to me, i'll host it.

- Myuki - 06-09-2005

wow, sorry to hear that man. If you need the pic hosted, i can do it.

- Ginger - 06-09-2005

Sorry dude - good luck with the recovery.

- KPWSerpiente - 06-09-2005

Well I my mom has told me twice now that she has no interest in loaning me the money for a rebuild. I'm not suprised...I knew when I bought this car that if anything major happened to it I'd be walking.

So I sent a letter out to slowboy racing. They build all sorts of 4g63 and 4g64's. I asked about financing a stock 2g head and their stage one block...ross 8.5:1 pistons, 1st generation rods, clevite bearings and arp hardware.

If they get back to me with a decent monthly payment plan I'll be placing that order.

I just don't have the time or space in alexandria to fuck around with it for too long. Car is outside my boy's house in fairfax and it would just be easier to swap in a new block and head one weekend than to do just about anything else. Won't be the cheapest solution though.

dammit...........that really sucks. If you're gonna rebuild, why would you use OEM rods??? Just wondering, i suppose the 1g rods are bulletproof. Forged rods are what's up

- Maengelito - 06-09-2005

- Andy - 06-09-2005

sorry travis, that f----- blows. wish you better luck.

too bad AWD conversions can only be done on the spyder models Sad

- Evan - 06-09-2005

arent used 4g63 pretty cheap?

- WRXtranceformed - 06-09-2005

Sorry to hear about that bro =( I'm sure you'll have an even better engine in the near future =)

Wrong.

Yes. In fact...I have several free blocks to pick from. Problem is I'd rather take this time to do a full on forged rebuild.

Right. I have now decided to go ahead and let the car sit for the next few months. I'll be getting a job closer to home or metroing my ass to the current job. Save for the parts...order a few here and a few there. And then assemble a new bottom end, purchase a brand new 2nd gen head and drop them in.

No it is not the cheapest or the fastest process...but that's how it's going to be. So sometime in October I'd assume...I'll be firing her back up.

- Myuki - 06-09-2005

well, whatever happens, I'll be looking forward to when you fire her back up.

good luck

- KPWSerpiente - 06-09-2005

Fuck that. Now I'm thinking a stroker motor. 2.3 liters of goodness.

I need serious help.

-T

- PDenbigh - 06-10-2005

Yes, 2.3 liters are quite fun :-)

- Feersty - 06-10-2005

Sorry bout that Travis, if you want my car for cheap you can have it.
