tire review: hankook ventus rs2 - Maengelito - 05-23-2005

so RJ suckered me into being his guinea pig for these new tires. i picked up a set of 235/40/17 hankook ventus rs2's for my subaru and in my very scientific tests of going on off/on ramps and in the rain today, i love them. they grip very well and are very predictable. now i havent autoxed with them yet but in the dry, they are excellent. in the wet today, they did great at full throttle on an onramp. like i said, not the most scientific tests, but they grip as well if not better than my potenza re070's (stock on the sti) and i'd say as well as the azenis on my integra (i know, not the same car, but they still stick)

i'll take that bet

how loud are they Maeng? do you think they'd make a good, sporty daily driver tire? i'll need new tires soon, so im looking at these and the fuzions Dave has on his rides.

i picked up 2 205/40 17 Fuzions for my front tires a couple weeks ago.....i must say these tires have the most road noise out of all the tires i've had, but they have great wet traction, havent really pushed them so im not sure on how they handle, you can ask John though he tracked a set on his WRX

I will never understand.

I like the tread pattern on the Hankooks.

Grip was excellent. Like Jordan said, wet traction has also been very good. However, they chunked badly down at CMP. I was maybe driving 6/10ths, since it was our daily driver, running 38psi all around, and the Fuzions lost chunks of thread at all points along the width of the tire. I've never had a problem with this happening before (with other tires), and I wasn't weaving on cold tires or anything, so I don't know. Maybe needed more air? Maybe it was an issue because the tires were so new? They had less than 400 miles on them. I don't know if Dave had a similar problem.

Thats CMP for you - the pavement has gotten very abrasive over the years, thats where i blistered and chunked (dime and quarter size chunks fell off the tread) all 4 falkens last year chasing down a damn M3 LTW.

awesome.

the road noise is a lot less than my bridgestones or the azenis on the integra. now this isnt saying much, but to me, they're pretty quiet.

- Ryan T - 05-24-2005

I would be tempted to give them a shot if they made a size big enough for my rear rims.

- Dave - 05-24-2005

Ryan, they do
the road noise is not that bad. There is worse out there, and for the peformance/price ration, F road noise. I think they are great in the rain, and are quite grippy as well. I didn't notice any major damage to them b/c of CMP, but I can't say that I paid all that much attention to it :-p/

I'm running Hankook Ventus HR II's (all seasons) on right now and I haven't been too hard on them yet but they felt extremely solid on some twisty backroads around town that I used to get some nice sliding out of on my RE92's. So far very impressed and especially in all the rain lately they've still gripped fine without issues.

Biggest size listed on the hankook website and tires.com is 245...not big enough for me.

sorry, was thinking Fuzions, forgot this thread was about the Hancooks Big Grin
