timing belt - Chris - 04-20-2005 I'm probably going to have my timing belt replaced soon. I don't want to bother with changing it myself bc I hear its a pain. Its supposed to be changed every 90k, it was done at 101k and I just broke 160k... now my question is should I lean on the safe side and have it done since I've tracked it a few times, few autox's, etc... How often have you guys changed it? - .RJ - 04-20-2005 I changed mine before I sold the car - 76k - there was a bit of stretch in the belt. Its not too hard to change yourself if you have the right tools to get the crank bolt off. - ScottyB - 04-20-2005 take the timing belt cover off and visually inspect it if you're unsure. usually a belt thats ready to go will have some cracks in it and generally look rough. - Chris - 04-20-2005 .RJ Wrote:I changed mine before I sold the car - 76k - there was a bit of stretch in the belt. sounds like I might be able to go a little longer, but I'd rather take care of a few things before going down to FL. - .RJ - 04-20-2005 Well inspect it as scotty says - mine was fine - visually - but it had stretched some. - Andy - 04-20-2005 According to my Brother in law, who was a Honda Engineer, Honda Belts are good for ~100k and as the engine gets older, it's actually a little easier on the belts than when it was new. Something about stress or the like. Not really sure, but I could find the paper he sent me about that a whiles back. But me, I would change it for peace of mind. Changing a timing belt isn't that big of a deal on a sohc. You would have to be borderline retarded to f it up. Check with Randy Fauls, he'll probably charge around 200 bucks for labor and you can supply the OEM parts. - Evan - 04-20-2005 Kims Auto in Fairfax charged allison $250 including parts on her integra - white_2kgt - 04-20-2005 belt? oh god. --chad - ViPER1313 - 04-20-2005 The timing belt in my father's Dodge Shadow lasted ~130k miles before it snapped (never bothered to replace it because it was a non-interference engine, unlike you Honda guys) - KPWSerpiente - 04-21-2005 Quote:belt? oh god. I'd take that over a wet chain any day of the week. -T - white_2kgt - 04-21-2005 KPWSerpiente Wrote:Quote:belt? oh god. wet?? --chad - Mike - 04-21-2005 for $200ish i'd pay for it to be done. - Jeff - 04-21-2005 ViPER1313 Wrote:The timing belt in my father's Dodge Shadow lasted ~130k miles before it snapped (never bothered to replace it because it was a non-interference engine, unlike you Honda guys) 2.2/5 or 3.0? I know the 3.0 is non interference (Sylvia snapped hers on the interstate last month) but I think a 2.2 is bent valve city. I know my friend can get it done for less then $200 if you decide to do it Chris. - ViPER1313 - 04-21-2005 TurboOmni08 Wrote:ViPER1313 Wrote:The timing belt in my father's Dodge Shadow lasted ~130k miles before it snapped (never bothered to replace it because it was a non-interference engine, unlike you Honda guys) 2.5 - KPWSerpiente - 04-21-2005 Quote:wet?? As in encased in oil. -T - .RJ - 04-21-2005 You know fellas, there's nothing wrong with either one of them (chain vs. belt). - white_2kgt - 04-22-2005 KPWSerpiente Wrote:Quote:wet?? mine is NOT encased in oil. --chad - CaptainHenreh - 04-22-2005 .RJ Wrote:You know fellas, there's nothing wrong with either one of them (chain vs. belt).
