1980 Honda CM400E ... is this worth selling for 200?? - rome138 - 04-10-2005

my landlord said we could have the previous tenant's bike 'cuz he abandoned it. i'm about to sell it for $200 to these spanish townies that keep coming by. should i do it 'cuz i'm not going to get anymore for it or is this a dumb idea?

by the way theres

- No title
- No key
- and apprently they abandoned it 'cuz it would cost them something around $500 or more to fix it to get it running?

for the those 3 reasons i couldn't legally sell it. i did tell these guys about the no title, key and it probably doesn't work. i'm assuming he just wants to work on it, etc... i may be able to sell it to a junk yard or a local bike shop around here, but i'm thinking this is my best bet.

let me know asap what you all think, thanks!!!

i do see in the kelly blue book its Suggested Retail Value is $800 but you know thats fully restored(working) and yea..a title..heh

kind of sounds illegal. try contacting the dmv to see what they say about it? i'm sure there is some way for you to take legal ownership.

yea i mean i konw it is possible getting the title for it. i could track down the original owner and get it and/or i'm sure there is some sort of legal abandonedment law where you can get it. but i think you have to pay fees with the dmv etc to get a title. not sure though...any more thoughts...

yes.

just take the $200

you arent selling it as a vehicle, you are selling it as a lawn ornament.

when he gets it running, its his job to register it.

ps- why the hell do you have a Chili's umbrella in your backyard?
you might be a redneck if....

hahaha...yea that chili's umbrella has been there the whole time too. iono, i guess we had some pretty weird tenants before us...yea i guess 200 if aight but i mean it is retailed at 800. i think 250 300 would be aight but whatever. i know i can't fix it up so i guess it is a lawn ornament, heh

evan raises a good point, sell it as a lawn ornament.

If an owner leaves his or her car at a repair garage for a long period of time and the garage wants to get rid of it, the DMV can issue the garage a title for the abandoned vehicle. My friend got a free car from his buddy mechanic like this 8) . I would imagine you could get a title with a few phone calls...

It's not quite that easy, but it is easy. Basically you send a certified letter to the owner telling them you're taking possession of the vehicle unless they come get it. If they don't respond, the DMV issues a title.

dude, $200?? take it and run with it. no key and no title that is waaay overpaying for it.
at the coleman powersports auction a 1980 500cc bike went for $100 that ran AND had a title.

yea but apprently the peps abanded it 'cuz they live far and it didn't pay for them to get it 'cuz it has like several hundreds of dollars of repairs to do on it. i don't know whats wrong with it...i wasn't told but i'm sure if somone can work on bikes it woulnd't cost that much at all.

- Martin - 04-12-2005

i'll take it off your hands.

cool, unfortunately that thing has basically no value in the private sale point of view. with no key and no title and unknown running condition. A junkyard can't take it without a title. If you throw it in the valley trader you might get some interest. plus its a 400, if it was a 750 it might be worth something. I cant imagine anyone making money parting the thing out.

im not tryin to jew you down, im just sayin if someone offers you $100 for it, i'd take it without thinking twice
i can get you a title for $230 bucks, this chick has a service that gets titles for people.

- Martin - 04-15-2005

try sellin the old girl and if it dont sell i'll take it off your hands for a royal Taco Bell extraordinary dinner
