I've been trying to find a used set of race seats, with no luck yet. I don't really feel like holding out any longer. The Racer Wholesale catalog that arrived today reminded me of these type of seats, which seem like a good savings to me....
as little as $99 for a seat and ~$50 for a cover?

this "spec miata" seat goes for about $230 w/ cover, they have another with the cool little "wings" on top (like above) for the same $$:
this kind of stuff comes from Kirkey and Ultra-shield. They even custom make them to match your girth. Drawbacks? Your thoughts? Would a Forza be a better seat for the $$?

What certs does the 99 seat have? How long do they last before you have to replace them?

If you use those alum seats you will also need to have a seat back brace fabricated.
I dont like them one bit.

aluminum seats transfer all crash forces directly to the driver.
fiberglass seats absorb impact forces by spreading it over a small distance/time

so do you think a cheap seat like a Forza would be a better choice? I'll have to sit in some of those alum seats and see what I think. Aparently the shop accross the st from rd ATL sells them.

went to that shop, it's SST motorsports. They stock quite a few Ultra-shield ones. Tried a few on, the big seller for them is the "rally sport" or something like that, and in 16inch version, it was pretty nice IMHO. Still need to sit in a Forza and decide what to go with. One advantage to these type of seats is that custom mounts are easier to deal with since you can just drill through the seat wherever you please. And yes, he recommended using a seat brace too, but really, they should be used with any seat.
Automod is a Corbeau dealer down here, I'll check out 'da Forza this weekend if they're open.

Another thing to look at is make sure you can properly mount a 6 point belt on whatever seat you go with. Ask the guys that are selling them, if they tell you to just run it up the 5th belt hole then ask them what the point in a 6 point is if you are going to do that.
I can't get my sub belt properly mounted on the EVO2' because the side belt slots are to high. So I'm basically stuck with a 5pt with 2 mountting points.

is 6pt really that much more beneficial? i know erring on the side of safety is always a good thing, but i'm not so sure shooting a seat down because it can't accomodate a 6pt is the best way to shop.

Depends on how much you value your "boys". Of course, sometimes you don't really have much of a choice, but if you do, a properly mounted 6-point that is snug into your thighs (but not your crotch) would be the way to do. I'm in the same boat as Chad though, a 6 point mounted through an Evo 2 sub-belt hole. Its not quite a 5-point, because it still makes a triangle between the two sub mounting points on the seat frame and the cam lock - but it's not a very wide triangle :?

Well, considering in a new years they will be _required_ it might be a good idea and just get the 6pt now.

Not if you run it though the hole in the middle of the seat. It actually turns the belt into a 5.5. Still 6 points, but not quite all the benifits.

so I'm going with some Corbeau seats, with the thing being on the street more than I wish it was, the padding is nice. Found a very lightly used Forza w/ bracket for a passenger seat, and might order up the same for driver's seat. But there's a fiberglass FX1 seat they make for a little more $, might be a better fit, I'll try one on this weekend and see. Installed the Forza as a driver's seat this afternoon just to see, and MAN... even that's such an improvement, I was excited! :mrgreen: I felt like I was drivin me a real race car boy!
