Dave is fat / 240s are fast - Raleigh - 04-01-2005

Hehe Sean told me to make that the topic to get your attention Wink. Anyways I have a 240sx XE that just threw a rod and he said I should get in contact with you. I am considering either getting a motor swap somewhere or parting it out if anyone wants to buy it:

- Brand new battery
- Alloy rims
- CAI (off-brand cause im poor like that)
- NGK V-Power plugs
- Excellent condition auto trans
- BFGoodrich tires, about 40% tread left
- Brand new starter
- Alpine Type-S speakers (x4)
- Wired for Sub, will consider selling amp and sub if anyone wants it, AMP is 820W with clean bass and sub is a Kicker L5 12 inch square with custom box.
- Everything else is stock, body has no rust but there is a scratch and some dents on the right - front bumper and panels, interior is in good condition.

As I said I am considering an engine swap if someone has a hookup for that or parting it out. If someone wants the motor itself its probably worth rebuilding, it doesnt smoke at all and leaks no fluids or oil.

Note: the 240SX is a 1991 Red Coupe

- Dave - 04-02-2005

that's funny, the one I'm selling soon is also a 91 Red Coupe. What are the odds!
Considering that a lot of people in this club are looking into 240s, somebody around here may very well want to take it off your hands. I've got enough goin on with them right now, so I think I'll pass.

- lyltoy - 04-02-2005

how much would you sell the entire car for? If the price is right I might be interested 8)

- Raleigh - 04-02-2005

I'll talk it over with my dad since he technically owns it, ill post again soon. I'm sure whatever he says can be negotiated though. Check back monday im going out of town but ill let you know.

hmmm so my dad decided to give me the "damn thing" haha so ill probably either put it up on ebay or sell it beforehand if someone makes a good offer. If you want to come look at it just post here and we'll make arrangements, I live off main street.

BTW the car does still run so it should make a short trip but I definitely wouldn't drive too long on the motor. I pulled spark and gas to the cylinder with the thrown rod so there wouldnt be so much pressure on the rods.

How many miles are on the car and just to get an idea what would be a "good offer"....thanks man

- Feersty - 04-02-2005

Probably worth $2000.

- .RJ - 04-02-2005

Good luck with that rob

- Dave - 04-03-2005

for what it's worth (depending on how it looked and after I inspected it) I'd probably offer ya 1300-1600. Considering its an automatic and needs a new motor, that's going to kill your sale price. Stunnas wanting to do a JDM yo RB/SR swap will probably like this deal, but I like the KA personally.

- mpg9999 - 04-03-2005

Its amazing how much people will pay for a 14 year old car with a dead engine. If it wasnt for the whole drift thing, I'd bet you would have trouble getting 500 for it. I suggest you do one of two things. 1: sell off some of the parts like the speakers and amp, basically make it stock, then sell it to some sucker for way more then its worth, or 2: sell it to me for 500 Wink

the car is a very fun car, and for the cost of an engine it is a very reliable car, so it probably is worth decent money.

- The engine in the car has about 90k miles on it, the car itself has 103k I think, something around there, maybe 104k. Other than the engine having a thrown rod there are no other problems with it that I am aware off.

- Tranny shifts crisp, so if someone did swap the tranny they could probably sell that auto tranny. Tranny fluid is very clean, no brown at all.

If anyone actually does offer around 1400 for it I would probably sell it.

Also the motor does still run, so it should hold out for a short trip, although for safety reasons I would not take it on the highway. You guys can email or IM me if you have any questions. email is karioth@ellicit.org, IM is karioth.

the KA is a nice engine i like too, you put a CAI on it and it just sounds beastly hehe. I once saw a guy with a 240 that had a sticker that said " NA-KA Loud and Proud". I read a lot of forum posts before buying the car saying people have gotten 250k+ miles on that motor too, I guess my luck just sucks -=\.

- BLAIR - 04-04-2005

i dont think you luck sucks. as i know right now 4 of my freind have blown KA's. i dont know much about the motors but pretty much everyone i know with a 240 and a stock KA they have blown or are blown.

good thing nobody wants them and everyone with a SR swap just pretty much gives away the KA motor. in some cases i have freinds who couldnt even give them away and ended up junking them

build a turbo KA. blow it up all the time and have 10 free replacement motors sitting and ready

take his 1300 and run and never look back..id be surprised to get over 1k with it being auto and a blown motor.. yes its a perfect swap car so people will be interested.. take all you stereo stuff out.. keep it or sell that stuff on its own and take the first offer over a grand you see. but more power to you if you can get more

an another note if you want to get it running agan i can ask around for some dirt cheep running KA's

- Raleigh - 04-04-2005

I got a 280Z today so I'm just gonna sell the car for what I can get for it. BTW 280Z's = badass

- lyltoy - 04-04-2005

what kind of amp is that you have and how much you want for it?

If i had $1000 i'd prolly offer it to you for the car, but i'm poor and can't afford that till summer....

- BLAIR - 04-04-2005

get some pics and specs of the car.. ill post em up on some random forums for you. to try and help with the sale

not at all trying to say your car is worth nothing and i know you have low mileage and you say its in good shape I just want to show you whats on the market right now.. and maybe these are all rediculously stupid low prices but form what ive seen this is what they are going for.

As we speak there are 2 240's on the lookoutdrift forum for sale. one for 350 one for 600 both 5speeds, both with blown motors, and they are complete cars

My buddy just bought a 240 in perfect running condition off autotrader for 1000 bucks. another freind of mine just got a clean 1 owner running 240 for 1300 bucks

Like i said.. if you get an offer for a grand take it and run.. keep all you stereo and aftermarket goodies.

good luck with whatever you decide

- Dave - 04-04-2005

auto trannies don't sell for shit
blown motors aren't worth rebuilding when you can get another once for nothing (unless you are "building" it or want the experience).
I paid 800 for mine, and put $300 into the drivetrain. Got 6k in mileage, 3 autoX and another 200 miles on the track with it. Really, these cars aren't worth much of anything. Don't set your hopes too high on your pricetag and your money invested in mods will never be recooped (Trust Me) so take what you can get and run with it.

- Raleigh - 04-05-2005

The AMP is a SPL Series II amp, the max wattage is 820 and someting like 300 RMS (I think). I never drove the amp very hard because my trunk would do the ghetto rattle above a certain volume so it should be in good shape. I never had any problems with it. I'll let it go for $100 or best offer.

The sub is a Kicker L5 12 inch with 1000W power handling. It is mounted to a custome box which is about 1 foot by 1 foot. Bass hits very smooth and hard (just like yo mama likes) $250 firm for that. I'll draw up some complete specs tommorow and post it here. Pics pending...
