Pitching an Idea - Dragon - 02-29-2004 Aight I'm trying to make arrangements with Cobetto to get a bunch of shifter karts out on track during a lunch session, probably at Hype R Fest. My problem is that it's a lunch session so obviously any corner workers that were out there will be in for lunch. Can't run anything on track without corner workers so I'm making arrangements with Cobetto and the guys at Allsports to offer a lil deal to MM members. If you work a bucket during the lunch session while the karts are out you'll get a free "Arrive and Drive" at Allsports. If you're already working during that weekend then this will obviously be on top of whatever you're earning that weekend with NASA. However this won't be limited to workers, anyone from MM is eligible for it, so if you're not working ie: instructing, doing HPDE, or just sitting around being a lazy sack then you can get the deal too. Hell since Summit is so close to JMU, if you just wanna roll up there for a lil while and work the lunch session you could (although that's a lil extreme). I'm trying to get this to be a whole demo sort of thing where these guys display their karts during the day, take them out for the lunch session, and then maybe they can talk with interested parties afterwards. Would be a good way for MMers that are interested in real karting to get a close look at some of the technology involved. Do you think that you guys would be interested in something like this? Would an "Arrive and Drive" be enough incentive? I tried to talk the manager into a team event like a free mini grand prix, but he was very hesitant about that. Let me know what y'all think. I still have a bunch of details to work out with the karters, and Cobetto, but it's all for not if I don't have corner workers to man the stations. - Mike - 02-29-2004 yeah i'd be down. - Chris - 02-29-2004 sounds good to me, could we get an arrive and drive at G-Force rather than allsports?? - Dragon - 02-29-2004 Chris Wrote:sounds good to me, could we get an arrive and drive at G-Force rather than allsports??No, I work at Allsports, not G-Force, therefore I couldn't swing anything at G-Force. - Chris - 02-29-2004 thats cool, I'd still be interested. - Dragon - 02-29-2004 What I'll also be doing is letting all the Karters know that it's not just thanks to NASA that they got to play, that it couldn't have happened it it weren't for MM. A lot of these guys have a lot of money and not a lot of common sense, so who knows what kinda doors it could open for us. - Maengelito - 02-29-2004 very very interesting... i'm not sure what my hype-R-fest schedule is, but i'm probably not gonna do an hpde there and try to work to get some credits... i'd be down with this though... - Dragon - 02-29-2004 I'm still not sure which date it would end up being at. I'll have to work that out with Cobetto once I know I can get the workers to cover it and I can solve his problem before he can even voice it, but this just seems like a Hype R Fest sort of thing. - G.Irish - 02-29-2004 Man that is an awesome idea. I've thought for awhile that Hyperfest would be the perfect place for the karting and pocket bike guys to get some exposure, now you're making it happen. I'd definitely be down to work if I'm in town. I imagine most of the shifter kart boys are somehow affiliated with Woodbridge Karting Club. If so, MMembers can try out driving a kart at Summit Point at the end of one of their race weekends for free. Its called a Fun Finale. Naturally you probably won't get to drive a shifter but supposedly its pretty cool. I've attempted to do this twice but the first time I didn't have gate fee money and the second time when Evan and I went it rained. Still, it'd be a cool thing to check out. - JackoliciousLegs - 03-01-2004 I'm in... when's hyperfest? If I can't flag, I'll definitely flag just the kart race! - Dave - 03-01-2004 I'm in. Free karting can't be a bad thing

If I can't flag, I'll definitely flag just the kart race!Still working out the details with Cobetto as to when we'll actually do this. I'm pretty sure we can cover all the stations with MM so I'm going to go ahead and plan it as that. I'll let you guys know as soon as I find out the specifics. - Evan - 03-02-2004 one important thing to take into account is that flagging procedures for karting are slightly different than with tin tops - Chris - 03-02-2004 yeah we might need a quick intro to kart flagging before heading out to the corners. - Dragon - 03-04-2004 I'll get the info from the karters, and pass it along as soon as this whole deal gets solidified. |
