Finally, I can get my seats installed the way I want them - white_2kgt - 03-12-2005 ![]() I just need to get the sheilding gas for it.--chad - JohnC - 03-12-2005 :jealous: My compressor will be here on Monday... - white_2kgt - 03-12-2005 JohnC Wrote::jealous: wow, you did all that work already on your car w/o air? Whatcha get? --chad - JohnC - 03-12-2005 white_2kgt Wrote:JohnC Wrote::jealous: Theres an upright 33 gal Craftsman that was on sale.. Don't remember the exact specs, but it should be nice (after all these years of breaker bars). Gotta go get a big-ass 1/2" drive gun and a hose reel, then should be good to go. I'm pretty excited. Anyways, back on topic - have you taken any welding classes? Is that a MIG or a TIG welder? What other gear do you need with that? I'm *very* interested in learning how to weld - cost of entry and lack of a detached garage is what's holding me back at the moment... Weld me up some motor mounts 8) . - white_2kgt - 03-13-2005 JohnC Wrote:white_2kgt Wrote:JohnC Wrote::jealous: It is a MIG and Flux Core welder. Basically you can use Flux core wire and no gas or you can use solid wire and gas and make it a MIG. Couldn't afford the TIG unit. This one was only 350 it is the 125 110v unit. The next step up is the new 140@500 or the 180@650 (220v) I would have like the 180 but just couldn't justify the cost. I can get 90% of the stuff I want to do, done w/ the 125. I haven't taken any 'classes' but I've been arc welding for quite some time and I've had a little practice w/ flux core welding w/ pete's welder. I'm going to get the Gas real soon so I can do a little MIGing. --chad - Andy - 03-13-2005 115 volts is fine for fabbing/fixing stuff outside of heavily stressed stuff like motor mounts. you don't get enough penetration to be safe. Having said that, i'm sure people out there do it. - Evan - 03-13-2005 I took a MIG and TIG welding course at NOVA CC, it was very good. It was fun to learn, but I would much rather pay someone who really knows what they are doing for anything like a cage or seat mounts, so I havent bought a welder. (and either of those should be TIGed anyway...) - Mike - 03-13-2005 some guys at work have taken a few automotive classes and welding classes at nova. anybody interested in them? i'm not going solo

I have taken several of the classes, and I didnt need a butt buddy - Mike - 03-13-2005 i just want someone to hold my hand, is that too much to ask? - white_2kgt - 03-14-2005 Evan Wrote:(and either of those should be TIGed anyway...) ahh, MIG will hold ![]() ![]() --chad - mpg9999 - 03-21-2005 Evan Wrote:I took a MIG and TIG welding course at NOVA CC, it was very good. He let me take in my SS exhaust so I could TIG weld it. - JustinG - 03-22-2005 beautiful welds - white_2kgt - 03-22-2005 white97dsm Wrote:beautiful welds for no gas they came out pretty well. I have gas now and will post up some real good ones soon. --chad - Evan - 03-23-2005 that weld looks pretty good, where do you get your steel? - white_2kgt - 03-23-2005 Evan Wrote:that weld looks pretty good, Lowes ![]() Currently I'm looking for someplace a little cheaper. --chad - PDenbigh - 03-23-2005 Try a machine shop. Do they have those in NOVA/MD? :-). Also, make sure you get a good quality steel. The stuff at Lowes is actually pretty cheap steel and not a good mixture. For seats, brake brakets (thus my application), etc, it's a good idea to get some good stuff. Also, McMaster Carr, Grumond, etc. Mock it up with cheap stuff, finish it with the good stuff! - Evan - 03-23-2005 McMaster Carr, now that place is expensive! There are a couple places in Manasshole that I know of that have good steel for cheap. My welding instructor tolds us about them. I havent actually been to one though. |
