Spring Install - Nis01 - 03-09-2005
Hey guys, I was just doing a little more reseach on spring install and was wondering if it was absolutely necessary to bleed the brakes when doing this. I wanted to make sure this was required before I went ahead and bought new pads and brake fluid. Figured it was necessary but haven't had that much experience with suspension work. Please let me know. Thanks. Look forward to having a slightly more aggressive ride. :twisted:

Not sure where you are getting that info, but unless your car has a very strange setup, and I mean wierder than oz, you won't have to worry about bleeding brakes. You do remove the calipers, but all hoses stay attached.

The 04 WRX's have a new system where the front shocks build up and store pressure that is then released when you press on the brakes. This is similar to a brake booster on some cars. Subaru just does it a little different. You don't have to bleed the brakes to change springs, only when you change shocks, but if you change springs you will need new brake pads and washer fluid.

Good to know, thanks ! I'll probably end up doing springs when the new rims come in. I debated doing an air ride suspension for the bling factor but it's way too fucking expensive ($3500ish for the Praxis setup) and supposedly doesn't offer a better ride. Air Ride Technologies had made a good setup apparently that is not too expensive and is supposed to provide good feel on the road and track.... But they don't make a setup for the WRX yet =/ Mostly for muscle cars, trucks, domestics.

Sounds good Chad, just making sure my information was correct. I'll make sure to have pads and fluid on order for the install in the next few weeks. Can't stand just looking at these springs..

Found a better site on spring install.. a tab must be modified so that the brake line can come out without having to disconnect... kind of like this..

"You can also cut a slot in the brake line brake and bend it to get the brake line out without disconnecting it. Doing this will save you about 1-2 hours of work and the the need to bleed the brakes."
