Seriously, never having ridden a bike, why do you think you need a 1000? Not saying you can't ride one and enjoy it but even a current 600 supersport pulls ten's in the quarter mile...
At any rate, if I had to recommend one or the other to a newb, I'd say the 1000RR because by all accounts it is the most rider friendly of the current crop of liter bikes.

do you think a 600's are too much for a first time rider too, friend picked up a GSX-R 600 off a friend for a decent price..
He has never ridden before, he seems to be doing fine and all. Just wanted someone maybe with personal input, and maybe future advice

You'd have to ask Pete, Kaan, or Martin but most would say you can start on a 600 if you are smart and responsible (and well-coordinated in general). If he's willing to put a lot of time into learning how to control the bike properly up front then he'll be fine.

There is such a huge difference between 600CC bikes. Personally I would never recommend someone start on a 600 super sport, like the R6 or the CBR600. I own a 600, its my first bike, and its alot slower then those. After 5 months of riding, im ready to move up to a faster bike. A "slow" 600 is plenty fast for a first time rider. 10 Second quarter mile times. Just sit back and think about that for a second.

Man I am still having loads of fun with my 500, it is still fine for me, I definitely do not need to move up yet. Good times. EX500 is a great choice and sporty enough to do a few lean ins.

yea id agree with that
the only reason id recommend getting a total POS starter bike is that you'll do all the dumb newbie things on it that everyone will do. Dropping it white getting gas, stuff like that.

as far as stages of 600cc bikes.... i'll use yamaha as an example. they have (slowest to fastest) the YZF 600, YZF 600R, and the R6. if memory serves me right, and feel free to correct me, they never made all three at the same time.... because the 600R because the R6... i think.
anyway... if you find a YZF 600 its ALOT slower than an R6 of that same year. and this new generation R6 is more to handle than last years.
the CBR line is almost universaly considered the best beginer bike in the sport bike category. They are fast enough and rider friendly... Though most of my friends have started on the YZF 600.
if you have your head on right, the GSXR isnt a bad bike... and there will be a transition time when you you feel so comfortable that you can out ride your skills on the bike (because its crazy fast).
Its guys like this guy... seeing how controled and smart he is via his writting style.... that raises my insurance on my bike. i dont see this guy doing well on a bike at all... i just dont see it happening. I was LUCKY as hell never to do the n00b shit on a bike when i was 16 and drop the bike at the gas station, drop it at a stop sign, high side it, lay it down, or what have you... but i'm waiting for that day lol, because you cant escape it. I was young and out of control when i learned to ride... and i have ALOT of poor mechanical skills on the bike i'm going to attempt to "fix".
honestly most of the people i have met in the club are mature enough to ride. especially since we have all scared ourselves in our cars at one time or another and know we would hate to do so on a bike. i encourage EVERYONE to take the riding class... as some have done and had fun at... because you learn alot... and i'll see you at my next class (need insurance help again... well i can take it again so i will)!

600's are fast. I mean sersiously, you can't even use the performance potentioal of a 600 on the street, let alone a 1000. Granted, I weigh like 145 lbs, but going outragiously fast on the street is stupid anyway.
So you wanna hit the track? Track bikes are usually 600cc cause the other turds are too big to put around the bends. Bussa's....hahah.
Bikes are dangerous. You may die. You will wreck. Other people do'nt see you.......sooner you realize this, the safer biker you will be.
