Road Atlanta Prep Work - JohnC - 02-23-2005

These are fun threads to see how folks are doing with regard to fixing/modding their cars in preparation for the track. So here's my to-do list for RA:

For the Z:

- Install roll bar, seats, harnesses (already have everything but the seat sliders and mounts)
- Remove HICAS pump, lines
- Sort out the brakes - I'm on the fence as far as ditching the whole VR-4 setup and just using the Carbotech pads with the stock rotors until I'm damn sure thats a limiting factor. Or maybe just getting some uber-bling rotors and using the Mitsu's that I just bought for my street pads...
- Another compression test (to see if anything changed since VIR)
- Leakdown test
- Check for any more boost/vacuum leaks
- Replace both exhaust cam valve cover gaskets with RTV per the FSM
- Probably try to clean up the plenum some more
- See if EGR is clogged - block it off if it's bad
- Test pipes (or get my mid-pipes welded shut)
- Gut pre-cats
- Replace busted front upper control arms (and tension rods) with SPL goodies
- Another alignment

For the Lightning:

- New tires (on order, should be mounted this week)
- Alignment
- AC delete bracket and pulley *or* new AC compressor, clutch, accumulator, expansion valve
- Check brake pads/shoes
- Check rear axle seals, rebuild if necessary
- Help neighbor fix trailer brakes
- Electric brake controller

Oh shit where do I even start......

- Find a lid for the miata
- Order and install Evo 1 seat, belts, steering wheel, and quick release hub
- Take it to kirk racing for a rollbar and seat mounts
- Brake lines
- Brake pads/rotors
- Change all fluids
- Valve cover gasket
- Fuel filter
- Test pipe
- Exhaust

And if my tax return gets here soon......

- Order and install SM suspension
- alignment
- cornerweight

And if getting the miata ready falls through.....

- Install the shocks/springs/camber plates I got on ebay for the BMW
- Bleed brakes and put in new pads

- BLINGMW - 02-23-2005

In order of importance:

1) install engine (finish date for engine is now early march :x )
2) swap good seats back from the piece I'm driving now
3) replace as many fuel lines as possible
4) break in engine
5) custom fab exhaust w/ headers if time allows (it won't)
6) install oil pressure, maybe other gauges
7) install FPR, get tuned on dyno (yeah right, maybe next time)

.....help RJ get one of his cars ready so I can co-drive it when I run out of time

Not specifically for Road Atlanta, it looks like my first track day will be in June at Summit...

1) replace rear brake bolts
2) install e-brake cable
3) swap rear pads to generics
4) replace remaining old rear caliper
5) figure out what i'm doing with front brakes
6) install header
7) acquire helmet
extra) harnesses, camera, seats

i think that's about it, i have a real list on my desk at work.

- G.Irish - 02-23-2005

Yeah, no way I'll be ready for RA in March. Should be able to make CMP though.

I'm surprised you can wait til June!

- Evan - 02-24-2005

No RA for me. I avoid looking at my miata, let alone working on it.

maybe when I can still feel my hands after being outside for 15 minutes Ill do some work. (and Im not even going to bother putting my list on here.)
step 1: remove engine

PS- Mike you pansy-ass, that work would take 1 afternoon max! Tongue

- Dave - 02-24-2005

c'mon Evan, it's been gorgeous outside for the past few weeks and far from frigid. Shit, Thayer and I installed the diff and all the suspension on the red car in 3 hours this afternoon.

- Mike - 02-24-2005

gorgeous outside? rofl.

yes, my stuff would take 1 afternoon if i had the parts.

- .RJ - 02-24-2005

And you cant get said parts because you refuse to use the phone

- Mike - 02-24-2005

said parts are on order. slut!

- .RJ - 02-24-2005

After 6 months we finally have progress.

- Mike - 02-24-2005

don't get too excited, i'm not doing the work until it's warm.

- .RJ - 02-24-2005

I filed my taxes yesterday...... I managed to use the federal government as an interest free savings account for about the cost of a SM suspension (fed/state) for the year. So as soon as it gets here.....

- .RJ - 02-24-2005

Alright got some shit on order..... things are looking good for getting this POS ready.
