300ZX Tech: Goodbye Emissions and Intake crap... - JohnC - 02-05-2005

Okay, so not too much tech in here... The stuff towards the bottom of the pictures is the lower half of the intake tract. The "wings" went into each fender, the boxy part immediately precedes the MAF...

Rest of it is the AIV (Air Induction Valve) assemblies which were located in the fenders, behind each front wheel. Stupid crap.

Where in Virginia can you get away with taking off this stuff?

Anywhere other than NoVA.

know the right person to pay up there, and it can be arranged for too :-)

very nice John. Seems like you've pretty much taken care of all the car's "weak" points (cooling, brakes, hicas), are you concentrating solely on performance now?

- .RJ - 02-07-2005

He should concentrate on driving that sled Wink

Not solely. I'm still using the methodology (for the most part) of replacing broken bits with performance parts, not just upgrading for the hell of it. The point in ripping out emissions shit was mostly the fact that it was broken and would cost a few hundred bucks to fix. And anything I can do to take stuff *out* of the engine bay on this car is definitely worth doing.

And the brakes, while not broken, were upgraded because the kit to do so went on sale at a price I couldn't refuse...

Yeah no kidding. This is why I don't need an off-season, I get bored and start spending more money... I'll just have to drive through December and January from now on....

My emissions are gone soon as well. I'll have about 3 total vacuum lines in the car once I'm done.

my emissions are gone and my cars exhaust smells like a turd with burnt hair all over it......but runs like a scalded pig Smile I live in staunton which is like 30-40 min south of JMU and to pass inspection it's only a visual inspection. I have passed twice with my exhaust, even though it burns your eyes if you stand directly behind it. DEATH TO THE OZONE!

hahaha that discription is awful

- WRXtranceformed - 02-08-2005

I kept a high flow cat in my TBE setup to help pass emissions. Dyno tests have showed the same exact gains with catted / catless setups, at least for my brand of exhaust anyway. I should probably replace my uppipe before I go stage 2.5, I forgot about the cat in there. Don't want it becoming a projectile in my engine !

it smells awful too. if you think jacks rx smells bad mine is like 8 times worse. if you stand behind it your clothes will smell and your eyes will burn. i just keep telling myself it is the smell of performance. i am planning on swapping a turbo II engine in there some time soon and will place a cat after a downpipe.

you haven't had to sit in my car with no crosswind with the windows open at a traffic light. I'm getting a high flow cat on if I don't sell it... ASAP.

Ah, the joys of a rotary.

I miss my FB Sad

Fun little car. I'd buy another one but..... what in the hell would I do with it (never mind I'm out of time, patience and money with 2 cars).

it seems like anyone who ever has experiance with an rx-7 is in love with the car for life. i personally love my 21 year old go-kart for the road.
