very cool - Chris - 01-25-2005 I was searching in google for garage space in H'burg and came across this site of a guy who races a mustang from h'burg. Here is his site and response to my email. Looks like we've got another contact in the area for race events! http://www.geekspeed.net/~beetle/ Hi Chris, I'm a JMU grad from 2000, and it's too bad I didn't have any decent cars when I was in college, otherwise I might have been autocrossing and road racing much earlier. heh. I'm vaguely aware of MM, Vinny Capaccio who works up in ISAT and graduated the same time I did, knows some of you guys. I used to autocross a 2001 Mustang GT, but now I road race w/ a 1987 2.3L 4-cylinder Mustang--Vinny is my "crew chief". I haven't updated the website about last season's results, but we finished all of our races and placed in the top half of the points standings for our class--ITB. Not bad for an outgunned oldass Mustang, we think. If any of you are interested in hanging out or helping out at the track this year, that would be cool. It's a small operation, so there's hardly any work to do, but it's fun to have a place to hang out at, carry a team radio, change a tire or two, and just be at the track. I'm interested in autocrossing my 2003 SVT Focus, but I've had it on the track at Summit Point once, and I might end up converting it over to a road racing car if I buy one of the new Mustang Mach 1s this year or next. I'll check out your website and see if I can meet up with you guys sometime. And I think it's awesome you have this group at JMU--if I can help you guys out in some way, let me know. I have an 2001 F-150 and 18 foot trailer that might prove useful. ![]() Take care and it was nice meeting you. Sincerely, Beetle - Nick325is - 01-25-2005 Nice! Perhaps that trailor can come in handy Nick - JohnC - 01-25-2005 Ah, Beetle Bailey. He was kind of a "mentor"/OG to the UUG (Unix Users Group) back in the day. I knew he had a Mustang GT, but didn't realize he'd gotten so into road racing. Very cool. - BLINGMW - 01-25-2005 hehe, his story about screwing Digital Storm is great. - PDenbigh - 01-25-2005 He races a 2.3L Mustang - Awesome, same engine as the XR! Vinny, the guy he referrs to, used to go to B-dubs on Tuesdays back in the day with Saunders, Chad, and myself. He's a great guy and loves cars and racing. He has crewed for many-a-team and has some great knowledge to share. Next time I see him I'll see if I can get him interested further. - Evan - 01-25-2005 heh....I remember those guys from the days of ruff.cs.jmu.edu and the "geek list" another one of them, brian caswell, was an early member of MM and did a few autoXes in his GTi. attack of the geeks - Dave - 01-25-2005 awesome. You old farts can rekindle friendships, and we get a trailer! - Feersty - 01-25-2005 Vinny is an ISAT major I believe and is heavily involved in motorsports, races Porsches or his father does I believe. - PDenbigh - 01-25-2005 Rob you goof. Vinny has WORKED at ISAT for the past 4+ years as a network admin and IT guy. - white_2kgt - 01-25-2005 yea, he still comes to some of the WDCR autoxes in the summer. I saw caz a few times as well. --chad |
