DIY camera mount - ScottyB - 01-20-2005 well i finally got off my lazy arse and built a home brew camera mount to utilize the digicam i got this christmas - it has a video function that's quite good so i want to take advantage of it. hopefully i can have fun with this at autocrosses, scenic drives, demolition derbys, etc. when i was in homo depot i got: - some long piece of what looks to be slotted angle iron, except its not iron....i guess its just some kind of mild metal - bag o' 1/4" washers - bag o' 1/4" nuts - 2 1/4x4" bolts - 1 1/4x1" bolt - one real fat washer - one real fat neoprene washer GRAND TOTAL OF $12.65, WOO WOO the frame is set up that the pass. headrest posts go through the holes in the angle iron, and the headrest also presses down on the mount to keep it steady. the long bolts are placed farther down the angle iron toward the middle of the car with nuts holding them in place. the long bolts ultimately support the small peice of angle iron that supports the camera itself. the fat washers are placed on the 1 inch bolt, which directly holds the camera. took me all of 1 hour to make, and as a bonus i only had to drill one extra hole for one of the head rest posts to fit right. the only tools i needed were tin snips to cut the angle iron, a dremel to enlarge the holes slightly for the posts, and vice grips to tighten the nuts/bolts (which i loctite'd). the finished prodoct is light, adjustable, and sturdy. PICS WILL BE POSTED TOMMOROW....and hopefully a short test-video too. - mpg9999 - 01-20-2005 I built one before the last autocross I went to. I just found a piece of wood I had laying around, cut it to the correct length, and drilled two holes in it spaced where the poles for the headrest are. I drilled them so it fight extremely tight on the headrest. It doesnt move around at all. The piece of wood extends out towards the drivers seat, where I bolted a 360 degree tripod mount to it. Ghetto, but works great. - .RJ - 01-20-2005 hey evan, post pics of yours!
- Mike - 01-20-2005 if anyone isn't feeling ghetto fab, there is a discount on the 944 Cup forum, 89.99 shipped for an ioport mount. - .RJ - 01-20-2005 IO port mount is the shizzle dizzle... when it is $50 shipped used
- ScottyB - 01-20-2005 the bling: ![]() and the view out of the car, from the mounted camera:
- Evan - 01-20-2005 .RJ Wrote:hey evan, post pics of yours!eat a dick, my shit worked great. (until it cracked) version 2 (currently under development) will be far superior to that IOport jelly doughnut garbage I also made one of the headrest beam type mounts like what Scotty is talking about for the WRX. It worked pretty good, but nothing beats a rollbar mount - BLINGMW - 01-20-2005 if that doesn't jitter around like crazy, I will be floored  - John - 01-20-2005 Since we're on this topic, how can you set up a camera to eliminate the wind sound? An auxiliary microphone? - .RJ - 01-20-2005 Put a piece of foam over the mic. Tape it in place. Poke holes in the tape where the holes in the mic are. - Chris - 01-20-2005 looks good Scotty - Feersty - 01-20-2005 Nice Scotty, now don't cut your shoulder when you lean to the right.. - Mike - 01-20-2005 Feersty Wrote:Nice Scotty, now don't cut your shoulder when you lean to the right.. yeah, cause god forbid should you cut your shoulder! i hear people dying from that shiz every day! - JackoliciousLegs - 01-20-2005 ass |
